ilanac13 - I couldn't agree more, and I've heard similar accounts from so many women. Something definitely needs to change.

let me tell you - after having children 2x (3 kids - twins and now a brand new baby) i've learned that there are a MILLION misconceptions about what you get for leave and it's frustrating. my last job gave me 8 weeks paid FMLA because of my c-section and my current job only gave me 6 with the same situation - and even though i debated it, they didn't budge. also, they told me that they didn't have to give me my same job after 12 weeks - just have A JOB for me....which wasn't what a 9 month preggo woman needed to hear. regardless - there are a lot of steps that the US needs to make to allow for more comfort for maternity leave and increase benefits since it's really hard to support a family when you're not getting paid, and it's really hard to feel like you have to go back to work early after having a newborn and have that separation anxiety and just not have your head into your job because you'd rather be home. i had to go back to work 2+ weeks early since i couldn't afford to be w/o pay any longer.
