Mad Men: Betty Makes Two Meals, Should Family Eat Together?

Betty Francis makes two meals — one for the kids and another for Henry. In last night's episode of Mad Men, Sally suggests she starts eating with the adults. Betty says she'll consider the idea if the child won't complain about being hungry and tries new foods. Do you think it's odd for a mom to cook up a "kid-friendly" meal for her kiddos and then have a separate dinner with her spouse?

Absolutely! A family should eat together because I grew up respecting my Late Old School Parents ~ R.I.P. as a young pioneer girl with Discipline & Manners and now I am Old School Mom/Grandma/Guardian/Auntie/Cousin Kirstin. BTW, this is one of my favorite Mad Men episodes. :heart: :hug: sweetkirstin

Right now we only eat together on the weekends. My daughter is hungry by 6 pm and her dad doesn't get home until much later. So I'll eat with her and just sit with him later.

Agreee with lickety split. Whilst on principal I think it's best if the whole family eats together, and some of my best memories from growing up are sitting around the family table, sometimes it's just not practical. I think it depends on the ages of the kids and the hours the working parent is working. My 2-year old cannot wait until her dad gets home around 7.30 for dinner. When she's older, sure she can.

no. not odd. especially if the mom stays at home and the dad is working long hours. you need to tend to your marriage. and if one partner isn't home when its time for the kids to eat, it doesn't change the fact that the kids are hungry. it won;t last long.
