Registered Dietitian Elizabeth Somer dished on baby fat this morning on The View. The author of Nutrition for a Healthy Pregnancy, Somer chatted with Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck about weight gain during pregnancy and how to work (and nurse) it off afterwards. I only gained 17 pounds with my last son so it was off pretty much before I left the hospital.

Seeing magazine covers with celebs who have hot abs after just three months postpartum (not just having lost the weight, but looking like they were never preggo in the first place) can definitely screw with a new mom's body image!! I do agree that a breastfeeding mom is more hungry, and I personally think it's really hard to lose the last few pounds when you're bfing. I lost the first 25 of my 35 baby pounds quickly, but it wasn't until I weaned Jack at 6 months that the last 10 pounds went. My appetite decreased when I weaned, and my body didn't need the extra fat stores anymore. At the same time, I had more flexibility in my schedule (when I was bfing, I was either working, bfing or pumping, it seemed!) to exercise. I had mixed feelings about weaning, but losing the last of the weight was definitely one of the pluses!

I saw that today and I totally agree with Elizabeth Hasselbeck (never thought those words would ever come out of my mouth!) about being more hungry now breastfeeding, than when I was pregnant. I feel like I'm starving half of the day if I don't eat every few hours. I eat more than my husband does because I'm so hungry all the time. I haven't lost any weight from the baby, I just keep hoping that when I wean my babe from the boob, my hunger pains will go too and I can finally start losing some of this weight. I really appreciated how the dietician did say though that it should take a while to lose the weight (it took nine months to put the weight on...) and not to try to live up to the entertainment industries standards of losing the baby weight in two weeks.
