Though some families consider their birth of a child a private affair that only a select few should witness, others are happy to share the photos and videos with everyone they know. One Boston family decided to share the experience with an entire nation this morning as their son's scheduled c-section birth was broadcast live on The Today Show. The moving segment – which brought many viewers to tears – provided many viewers with their first glimpse of an actual c-section birth.

Did any aspects of the c-section birth surprise you?

Just as it was soposed to go? *gag* planned c-sections "just because" make me sick. I had an "emergency c-section" which I fought tooth and nail to avoid for 2 days. She looks like the type that will also sign up for gastric by-pass and call it a necessary medical proceedure as well. NICE.

No actually each one's easier, I know what to expect and what to do. The number one thing is getting up and moving as soon as they take out the catheter, and walking as much as possible. I become very familiar with the nurses and hallways as I walk laps. lol

Wow Anon #4! 5 c-sections! Did you find it harder to recover after each one? With my second baby I hope to be able to deliver naturally (my daughter was a c-section), but if I can't, I'm worried about the recovery from a second c-section. Nope, not surprised. All births bring me to tears no matter how the baby arrived into the world!

i cry at most births i see. this one, not so much...yawn. congrats to the family, but, you can see c-sections on TLC/Discovery Health all the time. and i totally agree w/ above poster. any doc who says c-section is necessary based on weight alone hasn't read enough medical literature.

I agree that it's stupid to say weight alone is a reason for a c-section. Any doctor who says that is automotically off my list, it means they're uneducated. None of it surprised me but I've had 5 c-sections.

The only part that surprised me was someone saying on camera that the c-section was a good choice since the baby was 10 pounds. Ugh. I am loving watching the vaginal birth advocates getting in arms about that on twitter.

Having had two c-sections, nothing about the segment surprised me, but I will admit that it brought me to tears! When they pulled the baby out - and when they showed the mother crying - I was a ball of mush!

I've seen enough of the on A Baby Story. I don't really get why they had this on the Today Show.
