Lil Tip: Travel With an Umbrella Stroller

Having just returned from Disneyland where we carted our kids around the airport and to and from stroller rental stands every day, I'd advise investing in an inexpensive umbrella stroller ($20) for travel.

While packing around your heavy duty stroller may not be an option, the cheaper versions are perfect for keeping tots contained while going through security and making your way through the crowded airport.

And, they allow your arms to be free and the strollers can be easily folded and stowed on the plane.

I sold off my larger Peg Perego (Venezia... carriage/stroller thingy) and the car seat as soon as my babe was big enough to use a convertible seat. She now rides in a much lighter weight, ultra-portable stroller that reclines as well. I think it'll be the only stroller we use from now on (even though I have a cheapy umbrella one that was thrown in for free with purchase from Baby's R Us). It's just as easy and only weighs a pound more but has loads more convenient features.

Maclaren or peg prego seem to be the most popular in among my group of friends.

I had a Combi that we bought for air travel and we actually ended up using it all the time instead of the big stroller. We started using it when my daughter was 3 months and she slept in it just fine with the recline. And it had a shoulder carrying strap which was really nice. I don't know about stowing it myself on the plane, but we always gate-checked it and it was waiting for us (sometimes unfolded!) when we stepped off the plane.

Agreed, I just wouldn't want to leave a pricey stroller unattended in a place like Disneyland,etc.

I hate flimsy strollers. I like my Pliko P3, which is light enough to carry and easy to fold, but it's also sturdier than most umbrella strollers, it reclines, has a smal basket at the bottom and just looks nicer. Of course it isnt as cheap, but I think it's a better investment overall.

although spending a ton on a travel stroller doesn't seem practical, I would suggest at least one with semi recline. Kids get soooo tired at places like Disney so buying a Combi or Maclaren umbrella type stroller would be great in case of an unexpected nap. At least then, you can recline them a bit for comfort. Lots of cheaper umbrella style strollers don't have any recline and the poor babe is slumped over or to the side in the seat looking so uncomfortable. Combi and Maclaren both make great ones with recline that are still very lightweight and very compact.
