Bring the taste of New Orleans home on Mardi Gras. King Cake, a longtime Big Easy tradition is rich in tradition. The round, brioche-like treat dates back to the 12th Century. Today, the sweet, breakfast bread-like cake is enjoyed by celebrants in the days leading up to Ash Wednesday. But the traditional recipe is quite time intensive and not ideal for tots who want to help in the process. I've modified the recipe to make it quick and easy, and in cupcake form for the youngest celebrants. Just don't forget the purple (justice), green (faith), and gold (power) sprinkles, the holiday's symbolic colors!
