Would You Let Your Kid Wear the Same Clothes Every Day?

I am all for letting kids show some individuality, but wearing the same shirt every day for four years seems extreme.

According to Fox News, a Connecticut boy who loved his Brett Favre jersey wore it every day for 1,581 days. On his 12th birthday, he finally retired the shirt.

Would you let your kid wear the same shirt every day for more than four years?

cleanliness would be my issue and i don't think washing it every night would be at all eco-friendly or efficient. my boyfriend is almost an EMT and his information regarding the treatment of children was about limiting choices. like, instead of "can i take your blood pressure" it is "which arm would you like me to take your blood pressure on?" so there is choice and they are exercising free will, but not running the show.

I would not allow my son to wear the same shirt everyday for 4 years. that's crazy. he can certainly have a favorite shirt and might wear it often. but every single day for years?! I am not about to wash it everyday! this boy was eight years old when he started wearing the shirt. def old enough to realize that he should switch it up bit!!

sick. that kind of disturbs me. i can't even go half a day without changing my clothes so letting my kid wear the same thing, no matter if it were washed or not.. no way. sorry.

I don't question these things anymore. My new niece has worn the same 2 outfits for the whole month she's been here... and she's being dressed by the adult! Mind you, she has a drawer full of clothes she asked us to buy her that she doesn't put her in! My nephew (2) only has one thing he likes and those are his Batman pajamas. They have a detachable cape and you better believe that it's the first thing he asks for in the morning when he's wearing those PJ's!

I choose my battles. I would definitely encourage changing his clothes, but hey - to each his own. People wear uniforms to school and to work - this was his "uniform."

I don't know about wearing the same outfit over and over again, but I don't think wearing what they want is that bad. In a sort of unrelated story, I worked at a department store a long time ago and I remember seeing a little girl wearing the Esmerelda costume from Disney's Hunchback. I see her and I said "Are you Esmerelda today?" The little girl just looked at me and the mom said "see I told you someone would notice."

I would give the kid a bunch of Farve related shirts to wear, but everyday for 4 years is just too much. Then agian those Packer's fans are die hard.

My little sister wore her piston jerseys everyday in kindergarten. EVERY DAY. She has all five starters so it was one every day but it still drove my mother insane. It saved us on clothing because all her back to school clothing got saved for first grade. She wrote a letter to the pistons and they sent her a signed one with all the players. That one she has not wore but she framed it. It was weird but cute and showed dedication.

I'd encourage other clothes, but I wouldn't turn it into a battle. I'd make sure it was clean and in good condition, and probably have at least one extra on hand. But overall, it just wouldn't bother me. It just doesn't sound like that big of a deal. It's a shirt. It's not worth fighting it out for me.

I would let my child but I would tell them that it had to be washed every night and I would teach them how to use the washer and drier.

Honestly, I don't think I would. Not so much because I worry about the kids reflection on me, but I worry about how other people (including their peers) judge them. I would let him wear it every day when he was at home and reasonably often out and about. But, I really don't think I would let either of them wear the same thing every day for such a long period.

I would let my kid wear the same thing as long as it was worn during appropiate activities, I would not wash it everyday simply because I hate doing laundry so I would tell him you can wear when it's clean. This reminds me of this little boy I used to know briefly, he always wore a cape, his parents said he never ever took it off,I thought it was so cute and hilarious. I wonder if he still wears it now.

I don't see a problem if it's clean (he would be washing his own laundry though!) and there's no holes. I saw the kid on ESPN in the jersey and it looked neat and clean so I can't see fighting it. To me, it's not worth the fight.

Honestly, to some extent I think that children's clothes reflect their parents and I would be embarrassed by this (I remember Kate of Jon and Kate Plus 8 talking about how she makes sure her kids all look decent because they were representatives of her family). A phase lasting a few days or a week or two, especially with younger kids, is fine and understandable, but this boy was older and it was for a ridiculous amount of time. If I saw another child wearing the same thing for a significant length of time, I would start to question the parents. I think this goes beyond simple freedom of expression into the realm of crazy.

4 years? i don't know, lol. they sure got their money's worth. my girls went through something around age 4 where they wanted to wear the same thing for like a week at a time and i didn't care. washed it at night and they wore it the next day.
