Journals: A Gift For Grieving Mothers

It's hard to know what to say or do when a friend loses a child or finds out her offspring is ailing. So rather than trying to read another woman's mind, hand her a journal so she can empty her thoughts onto its pages. Mothers tend to take care of others before themselves and in trying times, it's nice to give them a medium to express their fears, frustrations, hopes and wishes in private. I recently had a stillborn, and have other children. This is a great idea, as I have been writing more. Hubby and I are so busy taking care of kids, we barely have time for "grown-up" time, let alone self time(besides in the bathroom!). We write to each other a lot too, so maybe a couple of journals? Maybe a little note, if you don't know what to say or do, say as much, and put "for YOU" on it... and acknowledge the child, please. Just an idea from one who is going through it, saying that you are just as lost as the mother, in what to do, gives a mom a feeling of... not quite sure... but it is not a bad thing... stray away from saying "helpful" or "similar" stories, or statements... usually not helpful, and end up hurting... just say if they need to talk, or need help with chores, from getting kids ready, taking them for a few hours, or even doing dishes is helpful, in SOME cases. To any other mother out there going through loss of a child, I am deeply sorry you have to go through this, and there are some great women out there (as well as men). Nothing you feel is wrong, I have experienced a few things (emotionally) that I would not have expected. Quick note... anyone experiencing stillbirth, and need financial help for giving your baby the last things (funeral and such) and only things you can give (besides love)... go to angelnames.org... they donate across the states, case by case. Sorry for such a long comment... just something I can maybe help with from one mother to another.
