John Travolta and Kelly Preston Are Expecting!

In one of the happiest stories of the day, John Travolta and Kelly Preston announced on their respective websites that they are expecting a new addition to their family! The couple, who are parents to Ella Bleu, 10, suffered the devastating loss of their 16-year-old son Jett last year. Saying that it is impossible to keep a secret, they wanted "to be the first to share this great news with everyone that we are expecting a new addition to our family." Congratulations to the entire family!

Dear Readers, Of course it is only natural to want another child when one loses another to death. Replacing their son? I think they are both mature and sensible enough to know that is impossible. I have known several deaths in a very up close and personal way. I would never want to replace what I have lost-but to have someone in their category to talk with- Well-that would be nice and comforting. Example: I nursed my cancer ridden mom and best friend until she died in my arms at 63. I would never want to replace her-but having a sweet little lady my mother's age to just talk with would be so comforting. Now do I call that replacing my mom? Never!! What we shared as mother and daughter can never be replaced. I call that moving forward, finding comfort, and learning how to live without her in my life. People -try and just be happy for their glorious news and get off your "ban wagons" and stop placing judgement. And it certainly is not anyone's place to be "concerned" for this new baby when it is born. I am pretty certain the Travoltas know how to love and cherish this upcoming child, just as they did the son they lost and the daughter they still have. I am so weary of people in general, putting their negative opinions where they do not belong. It is not your place to be concerned. In fact that is quite laughable, afterall; the Travoltas are two grown, responsible and consenting adults who should know more than anyone else their capabilities as new parents. Lets all just try and tend to our own shortcomings and be happy for those who find joy in the blessing of a new baby.

I don't think they are saying that she is pregnant, are they? From this post, it looks like they are saying they are expanding their family. so they may be using a surrogate or adopting. I agree that 47 is a little old for it to work naturally and safely. It seems a bit risky, genetically.

It is highly unlikely that it is Kelly's eggs that were used. There is very little chance that she could get pregnant naturally at age 47and if she did, there would be many genetic syndromes and disorders the baby would be at a greatly increased chance to have. Even if she froze some of them, the rate of live births from frozen eggs is very small. She is probably using a donor egg.

47, wow.. and I thought it was pretty much impossible to have children once you've passed your forties. That's great, though, I'm happy for them. They deserve all the happiness after last year's tragedy.

As much as I didn't want to think what Anon # 4 pointed out, that was one of my first thoughts as well. I really do hope the best for them though, and hope that they're expanding for the right reasons. They've had to deal with such tragedy, and hopefully this brings new happiness into their lives.

To be completely honest, my very first thought was they were trying to replace Jett. My next thought was isn't she a little old to be having a baby?

I didn't say that I was passing judgement! I said that I'm happy for them, but do hope they are not doing it for the wrong reasons. I've seen up close what can happen to a child who is brought into the world to "replace" a child that has passed on, and it can be very hard on the child, and the whole family. I hope this is not the case for this family, but I can't help but be a little concerned for the child.

While I'm happy for them, I'm also concerned that they're trying to replace Jett, and I've seen what this can do to people. You can never replace a loved one you've lost, and it's not usually a good thing. I truly wish them all the happiness in the world; they certianly deserve it, but I think they'll have some struggles ahead with it as well.
