I never thought of myself as "most popular" growing up but I finally found my #1 fan — and she's not letting anyone near her prized possession. Every time I am around another child, my lil one eyes me like a hawk. Though she can barely form a sentence yet, she clearly makes it known that I am NOT allowed to touch or pick up other children. Aware that this is just a phase, I am still a tad worried about how she will receive our newest addition to the family.

Heeding advice from other second–time mothers, and possibly Angelina Jolie, I am going to give my tot her very own baby doll. This weekend, she and I will go pick out a baby and a stroller for her to love and adore, just as I have her. Hopefully she will get used to the idea of having another "baby" in the house in the remaining 20 weeks of pregnancy. Stay tuned to the babysugar Diaries for progress reports.

Sweet story, lickety. I really hope mine (who will be 2 on the dot) reacts the same way to her new brother/sister. I don't want her to feel sidelined at all - if she only knew my real worry is that I can love the second the same way I love her.

my #1 was not thrilled w/ #2 (she was just 12 months old), but it was no big deal. #2 was in love with #3 from day one. i think it's mostly the personality and developmental stage of the older child/children. my #2 was 11 days shy of turning 2 when her little sister arrived. she was really into helping with the baby. for her birthday we had a very casual last minute thing with 2 friends and their moms. i had planned "big girls only" but then she was excited to show off her new sister. they are great friends (most of the time, lol) and she still LOVES babies. one thing i remember is that i would say "look how she loves you! it's special to be loved by a baby." she started repeating it :cry: my favorite parenting memory is #2 coming to the hospital to meet #3, it was wonderfully sweet.

Just be ready for her to take the doll and swing it around by its arms, stuff it in the toy oven, etc. They want the real deal! How close in age will they be? My daughter was too young to get the whole pushed-off-the-throne thing when my son came along. Now they're inseparable, neither knows what it's like to be the one and only. It will break your heart when you have to interrupt story time for the 3rd time to settle the baby back down... but you'll be fine! Oh and so will she =)
