Inspired by Obama's Call For Parents to Be More Accountable?

President Obama recently addressed the issues in public education. In doing so, he called for parents to be held accountable when they allow their kids to play video games after school rather than do their homework and for missing parent/teacher conferences. The commander-in-chief said that we all need to rally around the system so our children can get ahead. Does his down-to-earth sentiment inspire you?

I saw a documentary of a school that had a lot of students not passing to the next grade, etc. Only a handful of parents showed up to the parent-teacher conferences... and their kids were already doing great in school. Parents have to be involved. As for homework, I think it goes beyond just reinforcing what they learn in school. The kids learn time management and accountability... which are probably better skills to learn than the stuff you actually learn in school.

i already feel like it's my job to make sure my children receive the education they need as individuals. probably the only sort of disagreement i have is the homework part. my kids do their homework, but i don't agree that they should have homework. in fact, studies show that homework doesn't reinforce what is done in the classroom. and since my kids are in school for 7 hours a day and are still in primary school, seems like everything should be covered in the 35 hours a week the schools have my girls.
