Incredible Husband or Amazing Dad?

Women want it all, but sometimes there are not enough hours of the day to get everything done. And, the same goes for our spouses though we hate to admit it.

So, if you had to choose — would you want your better half to be an incredible husband or an amazing dad?

Do you mind if your hubbie is king of the playground, but leaves the house a mess? Or would you prefer he spend his time thinking up a romantic rendezvous for the two of you and allowing the kids to fend for themselves?

I'm completely with anniekim on this one. I really think that, if you have a child with your spouse, one of your obligations to your spouse is that you help take care of the child that you had together. Basically, part of being a good husband, if there's children in the marriage, is being a good dad.

Most women want both but most women have one or the other. You either have the husband who is always working but doesn't mind planning a romantic getaway with his wife, or the husband who likes spending time with the kids but is on two different pages when it comes to his wife. A good example of this is John F. Kennedy. Everyone talks about what a great father he was but as a husband, not so much. However, it works the same for women. Women tend to put their kids first and neglect their husband.

Dad, for sure. My kids would come first everything. I suspect the same from my husband, their father.

I'm fortunate in that my hubby is both an amazing husband and father. I'm very lucky. My first marriage he sucked at both roles so this is a true blessing for me.

I'm with some of the others - it's not possible for me to separate these two. If he wasn't going to be a great dad, then I probably wouldn't have married him. I knew the potential was there and he has lived up to it. Quite honestly, he is beyond my expectations. I have both a fantastic husband and a phenomenal, doting dad. My screen name isn't luckyme for nothin' ;).

I think it's silly to even say "You have to choose one." They go hand in hand. I couldn't marry a man who wouldn't be a good father, and I couldn't have children with a man who wouldn't be a good husband. In other to be each, he has to be the other as well. Same goes for me with wife/mother.

I've got to say both - a great husband makes a good father and a great father makes a good husband. I think a good man is a good man - and a good husband who will do stuff around the house and treat you right will teach those things to your children (esp, and hopefully, the boys!). I don't see how you can separate the two. And besides...nobody's perfect!

glitter, that is a great point too...i mean, kids grow up and leave the nest and who are you left with??? your spouse!! I would hope I would still WANT TO be left with him!

I say Husband, because a husband, by definition should be a good father. I mean honestly you MUST have some of both. I think too many couples get soo wrapped up in being "good parents" they forget that THEY are in a relationship too, and it causes relationships to fail, which will harm the child in the end.

anniekim, although your comment is nice, in my own opinion...he was a husband before he was a dad. I love my husband to bits and he is a wonderful, caring, loving father. But if he wasn't a good husband first I wouldn't have had children with him. Just my two cents.

well, he is really great at both, but I would have to give the edge to husband over dad by just a hair.
