How Did You Reveal Your Pregnancy to Your Mom?

Pregnancy is one of the hardest secrets to keep and picking the perfect way to reveal your news to your partner, family, and friends is both thrilling and overwhelming. You are going to have a baby, after all! Forty-eight percent of LilSugar readers opted to spread the news in person, but that's not always possible (particularly in the age of online announcements).

In honor of Mother's Day, we want to know how you revealed your baby news to your own mother or mother figure. Did you keep your lips locked until the doctor gave you the go-ahead, or share the news with her early? And how did you deliver the message?

My husband is a graphic designer and I handed my mom a magazine and told her to check out his illustration on page 78, where I inserted a photo of the ultrasound instead. She was a bit confused at his new design style for a moment.

I called her on her birthday and told her that I have her present, but it wouldn't be ready for nine months. She freaked out. It was fantastic! One of my favorite memories!

First of all, I am crying reading these other comments! I love it! We battled infertility for close to 5 years, and ended up having to do IVF. At first, I wanted to keep the whole thing a secret, but going through the process was very emotional, so I couldn't. Everyone knew the day that we got the blood test results back, so they knew to expect a call either way. Luckily, it took the first time so there were lots of super happy phone calls and hugs and tears! Then the next question was, how many?! Which got answered two weeks later...TWO! For our BIG surprise, we did a gender reveal on Christmas Eve. Everyone took bets on what they were (two girls). So that was really fun! Have a great Mother's Day everyone!

We revealed on Mother's Day of last year! In each of our Mother's cards we included ultrasound photos. It was perfect as we were exactly 12 weeks :) Such a happy day!!!

My due date with my first tot was right around my mom's birthday. I called them and asked them what they had planned for my mom's big day, to which they responded nothing (it was 7 months away). I asked them if they wanted to become grandparents that day and was met with total silence and then tears!

We found out we were pregnant on Christmas Eve Day, but we were with my in-laws for Christmas. They found out first, then we told my parents that one of their presents had been mailed late. We met for lunch and I gave them a card that said, "Mom and Dad" on the front. When they opened the card, I had written, "Or should I say Grandma and Grandpa? Because you will be in about nine months..." We made a little bit of a scene at lunch, but it was worth it!

I made my parents a video of photos from a recent vacation and revealed the surprise at the end. They had to watch it again to really get it. So fun!

I found out on New Years day (1-1-11) and since I'm a nerd for number sequences I sent my parents a picture frame on 1-11-11 that said "Grandkids" and included a photo of the digital tests and another of them dancing in the aisle on my wedding day. My dad texted me when he got it because he was too choked up to speak!

Two lines on my pregnancy test were very faint, so I wasn't sure If I was pregnant or not. My mom is a doctor, so I bought two more tests and went to my mom to confirm the pregnancy. So my mom actually knew before my husband.

I told my mom on her birthday. When she answered the phone I sang, "Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Grandma-to-beeeee, Happy Birthday to you." It was met with total silence, then tears!

My family had been waiting ever-so-patiently (7 years!) for my husband and I to start a family. To tell them, we waited until our entire family was together, then told them we wanted to take a group photo. When everyone was lined up my husband (who was taking the picture) said "Smile and say 'Jesi's pregnant!'" - the snapshot is absolutely PRICELESS!
