We used olive oil and a baby toothbrush and after about two weeks it was gone - it was a messy process, but it worked for us!

All 3 of my kids have had this and we never did anything about it. It's eventually going to clear on it's own. The most we ever have done is a good combing to remove the loose flakes after baths and such, but we also do not wash our kids hair at every bath and not usually for the first time until they're around 6months anyways.

I didn't find olive oil helpful at at. We used Seborrheic dermatitis shampoo and did a gentle brushing while in the bath and it cleared up in a few weeks.

fyi, we used the mustela foaming cradle cap shampoo for a severe case, and it was gone within a few weeks. highly recommended - olive oil might get the flakes off but it helps them recur because they are caused by oil overproduction - the last thing you want to do is add more oil!
