Have We Gone Too Far With the Eco-Friendly Baby Items?

We are raising the most Eco-conscience generation to date. Last weekend, Saturday Night Live made light of our earth-friendliness with a parody diaper commercial for "Chewable Pampers" that are flavorful, easily digestible and all natural. While the ad certainly took the movement to an extreme, it was a funny commentary on an issue many hold near and dear to their hearts.

Do you think we have become too obsessed with the products we give our children?

i think that "going green" has brought out a lot of fad products and services, but for a lot of people and their families there was a awareness brought about by it. with this awareness there came a lifestyle change. so while i think that same organic products and green products are a bit extreme, i'm happy that so many people are aware of what has been going on within the earth and are willing to do their part to improve upon it..

While I wholeheartedly support going green in a major way, I believe that some parents do go a little crazy and take it to extremes. My 3-year-old nephew wasn't allowed to pick his own costume (he wanted to come as Spiderman for a party) because the particular costume wasn't made of an eco fabric. My friend's adorable 2-year-old son sports the ashiest cheeks you've ever seen because his mom doesn't believe in applying any kind of lotion on his face. All things in moderation is a good philosophy. Let's be green without being irrational.

We haven't gotten to the point of edible pampers yet..LOL. I saw that last week and I laughed so hard! I agree with the ladies up there, you can't really go too far if its for our future health.

I agree. Remember in the mid 80s when it was found that there was lead in house paint? Yeah, that didn't go passe either. There's a reason for this, better and longer health. Nothing is worth it when a child dies before their parent does. Health is very important to a child's upbringing, and we should be eco-friendly as well while doing it. That way, we help our own quality of life, how is that going too far?

Being green isn't a fad. At one time, sanitation was the new hot thing. That doesn't mean that a couple of years later it became passe. I think it's just a matter of magazines and blogs wanting to seem above it all by being the first to say that environmentalism is overplayed. It's not. And it's already been said in lots of other places.
