Every birthday is sweet when it's your child's, but there's something extra special about celebrating baby's first year on the planet. Picking the perfect cake is breeze, but picking a keepsake gift can be stressful. Starbucks recently asked for support in our Q & A group, saying:

My baby girl's first birthday is coming up. What did you guys get your babies for this special occasion?

Thanks for the ideas, ladies. We are having a rather big get-together for her birthday and everyone keeps asking what to get her....We have now resolved to have our friends who don't want to spend too much pitch in for the new carseat.

my family asked about a bajillion times what my daughter wanted for her birthday. obviously, my 1 year old didn't have a care in the world and was VERY happy with the present bows lol. if someone really insisted on getting us something she "wanted" we had a short list of ideas: wooden puzzles, sand toys, little people play sets. for me, i like toys that get their imagination going. we bought my daughter a little fisher price talking kitchen (not the huge kitchens that are good for like 3 year olds) and she LOVES it! she got a lot of play balls, bubbles, and even a cute ladybug sprinkler all as gifts from relatives and each of those gets played with a ton! one thing i would stay away from is clothes! so boring! and so many babies are different sizes. we got SO many 12 month clothes. my daughter was still in mostly 6 month stuff and still (at 15 months) is only in 9 months. we took most of it back because we live on the east coast, and in 3-6 more months when the stuff fits her, it will be too cold for sundresses and flip flops. my aunt gave us a gift card in place of the clothes she was going to buy and then some wooden puzzles. it was awesome!

I'm also not really in to keepsakes, besides photos. We have lots of albums :) I think one-year-old presents are the easiest, since they aren't asking for anything yet and are pretty much happy with anything new that you give them. Stacking toys are great, as are Little People toys (my son got the farm), bouncy balls, push toys and bikes, etc. Tents and trampolines are also alot of fun and will grow with your child.

I didn't do any keepsake type things for my daughters birthday - other then pictures and videos that I will eventually put together and frame to hang on the wall.As far as her gifts, I got her toys that would engage her then, but really come into play for the long run. I got her a rocking horse, a toy barn set, a zoo set, a large Mr. Potato set. ALL of those toys still get played with daily, and she's 2 1/2. Easy toys to imagine playing with many different ways.
