Tasty Treats For Labor and Delivery Staff
If it takes a village to raise a child, it can take a handful of people to deliver one. Nurses, doctors, midwives and doulas often play instrumental roles in baby's debut. Though only 23 percent of lilsugar readers said they thanked their birth assistants with a gift, those who did made thoughtful purchases. Here are some sweet options perfect for saying thank you that can also be shared with the person's coworkers.

i hate to be rude, but isn't that their job? granted, some of mine over the 23 hours went above and beyond, but the key words there are "some of mine" denoting the fact that i had more than 1. more like 5 due to changing shifts, and maybe more. that's a lot of gifts.
1I have never understood the gifts for the nurses thing, but then again none of my nurses during my day long labor or 3 day stay were anything more then curt. Plus, I agree, its their job, and not one they depend on tips to pay the bills with, so i dont agree with gifts as a general rule, espeically since you see like 20 different nurses during your stay. I hardly saw the same nurse at all. I had one nurse that sat there with me for her entire shift, but she looked jazzed at the opportunity to sit on her rear for 8 hours.
I think there are other experiences that more warrent a gift. Hospital stays like NICU and severe diseases for children - they often have only 2 nurses that split shifts the entire time, so its more of a personal experience.
2This seems like another examples of the over the top US tipping system...
3Our labor and delivery nurses were amazing. I can't imagine not saying thank you to someone who plays such an intimate role in your families life. Even a card showing your gratitude is plenty, and very appreciated by your nurses. Yes, it is their job, but how many of you can say that you touch peoples lives in such an intimate way, at such an important time.
4Giving them a cute card that they can hang on the wall and smile at a few times, yes....going all out for them when you know they are not going to remember you after about 2 weeks, no.
