The In-Laws: Do You Get Along With Your Partner's Parents?

One big happy family...did it happen? The blending of two families can be seamless or tough when a couple decides to marry or have children. Coordinating holidays and cultures and coping with opinions are just a few things that need to happen to create peace within a big extended clan. How did things work out in your situation?

Not really, but it's not just because of little things that annoy me or anything. They are an extremely violent and abusive family, toward one another and my husband, so much that the mother has broken the father's leg with a baseball bat and shenanigans like that. I don't think I can ever forgive them for putting my husband through the things he's gone through. I do talk to them online occasionally, but I am generally keeping a cool distance.

I really lucked out -- my FIL is a bit kooky but a really nice guy, and my MIL is super generous (she bought all of our nursery furniture) and kind. Plus, MY parents and my in-laws get along great :)

My in-laws are very cool. I know they think I am a little cold and do not understand me, but they try very hard to make me feel welcome and part of the family. I think they look @ me the same why the family looked @ Sarah Jessica Parker in The Family Stone.

My in-laws are generous but judgmental.... I'd probably prefer the reverse, or ideally generous AND nice :)

Same here, Sienna. I love them dearly, but my parents-in-law are sometimes overambitious about helping out (which inludes feeding the dog crap so she gets diarhea :( But mostly we get along great. I've never really had any problems with the parents of my boyfriends. I seem to be a crowd pleaser ;)

I voted yes, but there are moments that I want to scream because they get under my skin.
