Would You Genetically Select the Sex of Your Baby?

The odds are stacked against British mum Wendy Bowen when it comes to having girls.

Sadly, her first pregnancy ended at eight months with her only daughter.

She then successfully had eight boys in a row after the devastating loss. Now at age 41, the mummy is still hoping for a lil princess to call her own.

As science now allows, couples can genetically choose the sex of their baby by undergoing an embryo screening process, which costs upwards $20K.

Would you ever use a procedure to get the child of your choice?

That's not natural, at least in my opinion. It's not based on religion, but I would rather leave it up to chance. What does it matter (at least in America, I don't know about in other countries) what gender your baby is? They're still your baby.Like someone else said, this sounds like humans getting too used to getting what they want. What's next? Finding ways to pick out hair and eye colour?

I would do natural things, which makes me morally the same, I guess! I would, for instance, change my diet or try to conceive on a certain day - and indeed have in the past tried while trying to conceive. This time around, though, I'd been trying so long I gave up and just tried to get pregnant - so even though those things almost certainly don't work, there really is no way of knowing what I'll get this time: I just pray the baby gets to full term, and is healthy and safe.

Yeah...like I can't see choosing the sex of a child getting out of hand whatsoever. Like the article says, “Just because you technically can do something, it doesn’t mean you should”.

I love the other comment of don't fix what's not broken! I honestly don't care what the sex of my future children will be, as long as they are healthy, I am a.o.k.

No way- a baby is a blessing regardless and I wouldn't want to mess with God's plan or nature for that matter. If it ain't really broke, don't fix it!

I might consider it if I were in the same situation like the woman from the story, I can understand wanting to have at least one of each. I wouldn't just do it for the heck of it though, I like the whole surprise factor.

As much as I would love a girl, I don't think I would do it. I am obviously meant to have a basketball team of boys so I will be happy with what I get.

No. I would personally rather have nature decide and if I had all boys then I would a adopt a girl (or two. so she wouldn't be alone.) However I would support some people that do this. Like in the situation I metioned above; maybe a couple would be desperate for a baby girl/boy of their own. That I would understand. What I dislike about ths selection deal are the couple that will do this just because they can afford it; like the types that are just starting a family; then I think this is taking why to much control over the process.

Ooops. Just read my comment and it wasn't written very well. Actually my comment is ironic because these people want a girl and can't get one. Well, they can if they pay a lot of money. If you have to spend that amount of money to get a girl maybe you have never been told that you don't always get what you want and that is the way life works.

There is also a way to spin the sperm to separate the sexes. Not nearly as accurate, but much cheaper.That being said I don't think it should be done. I can too easily see people, especially in less forward thinking countries, always opting for a boy which could dramatically affect the entire world. Biology and nature are smarter than we are most of the time.
