How many of you thought Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were crazy for reportedly having their very own ultrasound machine in their home? Well get ready to call the rest of the population nuts because the world's about to get x-ray happy with General Electric's newest gadget. Expectant ladies who want to swoon over their unborn baby will soon be able do so in the luxury of their own home.
Thirty years ago, women were only given ultrasounds in high-risk pregnancies or rare circumstances. In modern day, most pregnant mamas have the chance to view their growing babe at least three times and often much more than that. Antsy pant parents who fret about the fetus may go gaga for the new portable ultrasound device introduced by GE. Reportedly the size of a BlackBerry and inexpensive, the monitor can scan the body as well as if she were sitting in her doctor's office. Now that's not saying the mother-to-be will have a clue what she's looking at, but it may bring comfort and peace of mind to know she sees some black and white flutter action in her abdomen. Do tell, if the price were right, would you buy such a gadget for your expectant days?

Maybe...it would have been nice to check if the hearbeat was still there the first month, before the kicking and everything. I still remember the anxiety before every ultrasound.
1NOO. Ladies do not do this. Overexposure could harm your baby. A friend of mine did his PHd thesis on the use of ultrasounds on fetus'. The conclusion... BAD for baby!
2bad for the mommy! as if preggo women dont have enough to worry about now they can use technology to be even more in depth without knowledge and worry more!

3No. Evidence is unclear as to how many ultrasound waves are safe, and I'm not chancing my child in the name of convenience. Plus, it just begs for overanalyzing EVERYTHING. Unless there's a medical reason for it (which isn't likely since a medical reason would involve a tech or dr looking over the results, not mom at home), it's a really irresponsible device.
4As enticing as it would be to see the baby every five seconds, I'd agree that it's probably not a great idea for parents to have at their disposal. I do, however, think it will be life changing for missionary doctors that travel to rural countries where machines are not at their disposal.
5I probably would buy but I would only use every now and then, and I would make sure it was safe to use first and how often to use. When I was pregnant with my second child 5 years ago I bought one of those gadgets to hear the heartbeat, yes I'm a worrier! I didn't use it often though.

8I don't think it's safe to have u/s's too often. I like BabySugar's idea though. It's the perfect option for areas that may not have access to u/s machines.
