Okay, you people in the west take breasts waaaaaaaaaay too seriously... Im from Southern Africa, and there no one cares whether you're breastfeeding, where you're breastfeeding, how much of your boob you expose, let alone that its "offensive". In that respect, I'd say our culture is very supportive to breastfeeding mothers...

I'd like to see a list of things you shouldn't say to a bottle-feeding mother. You have no clue about why she's doing it.

Human milk provides specific benefits to human babies and changes to meet their needs! It is created for brain and neurological growth. World Health Organization recommend all babies be fed human milk for at least two years.....American Academy of Pediatrics recommends human milk for the first year and beyond. Both organizations recommend feeding human milk exclusively for the first 6 months of life. Average age of weaning world wide is 4.2 years..... Biologically and physiologically we are created to nurse our children and nurture their growth and well being. Do the best you can for your child....one day nursing is better than never, one week is better than one day, 1 month better than 1 week, and so on. It's a gift only mom can provide for her child! We grow healthier, smarter, stronger human children with human milk!!

I think women should be able to breastfeed anywhere, anytime. Im sorry, but when the child is old enough to walk up and ask for your boob, that is too old, and very disturbing!

I just think it's weird when a child is breastfed once he or she can eat food and walk. Why does the child need breastmilk? Breastmilk is for infants.

"The fact is, I don't want my 12-year-old looking at some breast feeding pervert...." You have some serious hangups about breasts and sexuality. Get a grip. Feeding my child in the way god and nature intended is not sick. Babies can't wait to "go home" and eat, they have to do it when they're hungry. If you're so damn uptight, feel free to look away and stop starting at my boobs, you perv.

The fact is, we have a right to feed our children. That includes breastfeeding. If a mother can bottle-feed her child in one place, then I can breastfeed mine there. I wouldn't mind going somewhere a bit more out of the way, but I'm not going to feed my child in a disgusting restroom. I'm certainly not going to live as a hermit while my child brestfeeds as well. I'm not saying I whip my breasts out and swing them around either. I have some common decency. And I'd also have to say, if the restroom did not have child changing equipment, I'd change her on the bench in the middle of a crowded mall if I had to. My child will not suffer for any reason, any where, for anyone else's "comfort".

The most shocked I've ever been about a BF comment happened to my sister. We were visiting my father in the hospital after he had a stroke. The neurologist came in along with the residents for rounds. One of my sister's twins was nursing at the time. The neurologist paused and stared at my sister and then said "oh, you're nursing? Wouldn't you prefer to step out while we're in here and go somewhere more private?" My sister just smiled and said, "No, I'm comfortable here". I couldn't believe a physician said that. Argh.

Advah, I know. It was appalling. Especially since I'm not "flashing" my boobs like they were probably thinking. There was nothing "indecent" showing at all. I was being as discreet as possible just to avoid those kind of comments. But they still arise. Awful. And Anon, that is awesome! I would tell people the same thing.

Generally if someone asked me to move, it was with the excuse "because I'm trying to eat here and you're making me uncomfortable." I told them to go eat their meal in the bathroom if they were so put out.

^I can't believe people would tell you do breastfeed in private! That's so stupid, insulting and ignorant! It's just a boob, for goodness' sake! And most of the time the baby's head is in front of it anyway!

When I nursed my daughter, I heard all of these, plus more. People can be so ignorant! The "when can I have those back" line is kind of humorous. When my boyfriend would say it to me I never really took offense to it, as he was always joking. He's always so proud to say his daughter was nursed for a full year!What really got to me was dirty looks from people when I would nurse in public, or those who would tell me to go somewhere private. I have never been so outraged in my life. It's ridiculous that in this day and age, some people are still considering it to be indecent
