I have friends who have kids. I understand the mom is overwhelmed, especially if more than one child. It's not a big deal to me. A "thank you" note would be nice. As a mother, I would probably be conscious of these things, also. My guess is that most people aren't as understanding. A good friend will try to understand. No worries! :)

Hmmmmm.....I posted about this article on my blog about thank you notes here (http://) thankfullysimple (dot) blogspot (dot com) I find this discussion really fascinating. I do consider thank you notes an absolute, no-excuse essential. (Probably not surprising considering what I do lol!) I like reading the comments about other things (some) moms do. Ditto on rolling over toes w/stroller. If you even look up (like "hey, who rolled over my foot!?") without saying anything, *they* look at *you* like you're the rude one. And lol @ the bad minivan driving. I don't drive a minivan but I admit I have developed a super-long right arm from reaching back to the floor for the fallen toy, blanket, etc.

i agree with many of the women here, that this list isn't even covering the really rude stuff. like bumper cars with the stroller and obnoxious suvs that take up two car spaces, people who bring their kids to more young, hip restaurants and expect there to be millions of high chairs and tell everyone else to stop smoking even if it's a smoking patio,...

wow, this was obviously written by a mother because the things listed are actually not that rude... i think many would consider these normal, you didn't even begin to tap on what many would consider rude.

Please, a baby is no excuse for not writing thank you notes. The kid will not be harmed if you stick him in the playpen for a few minutes and jot out a quick thank you. Or write one during his naptime.

I don't think mothers are any ruder than the average man. If anything, I'm much more attentive to my actions now that I'm an example for my children. For instance, I wouldn't dream of constantly interrupting a phone call to let my children talk, I either tell them they can't or I get off the phone. I hate being on the phone with someone, parent or otherwise, who constantly works on something else while talking to me, so I don't do it to others. And thank-you notes aren't a part of our lives either, and never have been. Well, not NEVER, I did do some for our wedding for those who seem to think it's a priority, but in our circle it'd be rude to send a note rather than speak directly to the giver for a personal thank you.

I don't have kids yet, but I like kids, and enjoy stories about the silly things they do and say.I DON'T enjoy hearing non stop about how much they poop, and how often, and the color, and the consistency.It's like my tri training -- I tri (HA) to keep it a minimum around non triathletes because I know they get tired of hearing about something to which they cannot relate.

If anyone talks about ANYTHING 24/7 it's annoying as hell. It would be nice to be considerate of the friends who don't have children to not talk about poop and breastfeeding for HOURS on end because they don't care. It's the attitude of "now i have kids and that's all i'm going to talk about from now on" that ruins friendships and furthers the divide between people who have kids and people who don't. Most people are reasonable and expect parents to talk about their kids, but when that's ALL that they talk about, thats annoying and I don't blame anyone for ducking out of that friendship.

Funny...I bet you dont have kids. When mothers/fathers talk about their children 24/7 is because its what they do. Its how parenthood is. I dont really know what "obsessing" over your children means though. If its on facebook or twitter isn't the point to talk about what you do every 2 minutes of your life???

runningesq- i 100% agree with you... i have way too many people on facebook that OBSESS over their children and anything about them. Seriously, I feel that once you have a kid, it is ok to pretend you are more important and can do what you want and ignore your prior friends. Well, it's not and I don't do that. People need to get over themselves. Just because you reproduced doesn't make you the most special person on earth.

I have never received a thank you note either. I've read about it on other American based sites so maybe it's a cultural thing. We just thank the person at the time we receive the gift.

You've NEVER received a TY note ? EVER? have you been to a bridal shower/ wedding/ baby shower/ birthday party and given a gift? That is so weird. And yes, thank you, I am happy with my life.

Seriously, a thank-you note/guilty of being rude? I've never received one a day in my life so how about everyone does these things, not just moms. And if that girl chooses to FB about her child 24/7, obviously she's happy w/her life, are you? It's not a requirement to look at it!

I mean, some of those are actually understandable and I don't really find them rude, but the whole "GET OUT OF MY WAY, I'VE GOT A STROLLER AND IT'S THE SUV OF ALL STROLLERS" thing really really pisses me off. Like, believe me, I will automatically get out of the way just out of common courtesy but the women who repeatedly either run into the backs of my legs when walking or charge towards me like they want to play chicken are seriously deranged.

talking about your baby/kid NON STOP. I get that they are a very, very important part of your life, but every FB status update for one girl I know revolves around her daughter/ breastfeeding/ pooping schedule.

How about running over people's feet with the stroller when my daughter really reeeeally needs to go to the bathroom? LOL...I feel bad afterwards..but at the time I have the only evil face on when people decide to walk suuuper slow!

I have to disagree with the abrupt check please one, having working in a restaurant for many years, I think it's extremely rude when you stay at the place while your kids are running around and screaming and carrying on. How is that enjoyable to anyone the parents included? I think its more polite to leave abruptly than to stay.
