The Duchess of Cambridge, who as we all know is expecting a baby in July, has been on the go during the past few months, from a babymoon in Mustique to official palace visits throughout the UK. Whether or not your upcoming agenda mimics that of royalty, moms-to-be can apply the same rules to their own travels.
Tips For Traveling During Pregnancy:
- Ask your doctor to refer you to a medical practitioner in the region you're traveling to — just in case.
- Invest in travel insurance. It's well worth the additional expense (which usually isn't very much).
- If you have a choice, the second trimester is often recommended as the best time to fly. The likelihood of a miscarriage is significantly lower than the first trimester, morning sickness is (hopefully!) behind you, and you should still be able to get around relatively easily.
- Since pregnancy makes women susceptible to thrombosis and varicose veins, when you're in the air, keep your blood flowing by walking around the cabin when it's safe to do so.
- Request an aisle seat for easy access to restrooms.
