Do You Have an Emergency Plan For Your Family?

A recent earthquake in San Francisco and all of the hurricanes out East have me thinking about our family emergency plan. Prepared for future trembles, I have flashlights under our beds, land-line phones stored close to our phone jacks, bottled water and canned food in the pantry, and a list of phone numbers on our refrigerator.

While I can't plan for the unexpected, I can try to have an emergency plan in place for my family. Do you have one?

There should have been a "no, but I need to option". Because I know we need to, we just haven't gotten it done yet.

I think g1amourpuss, when she says 'get the f out of there' she's referring to being completely focused on protecting her daughter in the even of an emergency- having the adrenaline to keep her safe no matter what, and I think that's commendable.

Good for you Greggie. And even better for you to just assume I don't have a fire extinguisher. (The home I live in is Histortic, btw. It would cost at least 5k to rewire... I've only had one scare.)

We're a little more prepared than "grab and get the f*** out," but a little less prepared than having full kits put together. We have fire ladders and extinguishers in both upstairs bedrooms and basic earthquake preparedness stuff. We could do better.

We don't really need to worry about hurricanes, earthquakes or tornadoes where we live, so no we don't have an emergency plan.

we dp, but i think it's a work in progress. as meds change, children grow out of clothes, phone numbers change, things have to be updated. i need to do that. plus, what if we aren't home when it happens? i have some things in the car (first aid kit and bottled water) but that's really it.

This reminds me again that we need to! We are living in Japan right now and just had a 6.9 earthquake hit about 2 months ago. It made my husband and I realize that we don't have any plans in place if something bad were to happen.

Ironically, yes. After the earthquake swarms started here near Reno (our house) we got a 72 hour kit together as well as put together an even more long term preparedness "kit" in our camper with clothes and food for a week or more. Now it's done and it is very nice knowing that we have everything together in case of an emergency.
