Just because baby leaves the hospital with a passing grade on vision and hearing tests does not mean perfection forever. Watch where the toddler holds her books and where she sits when watching TV. If she tends to turn her head to hear things or tilt her head one way to see or hear things, raise the concern with her doctor.

Celiac disease is missed a lot. 1 in 133 people have this disease and most do not know it. In children some signs are poor growth, diarrhea and a huge distended belly. Proper diagnosis and switching to the gluten free diet can really help them feel so much better and get their growth back on track. Unfortunately since doctors don't get any $$$ from drug companies for this, diagnosis is often missed and the kids (and parents) suffer. I was not diagnosed until I turned 35. Life would have been MUCH better if doctors did their jobs and tried to find out what is wrong with us instead of prescribing useless medications.

Actually, there's an error in the slideshow. Torticollis has not become more prevalent due to the 'back to sleep' campaign, plagiocephaly (flat head) has become more common. Children with torticollis often end up with plagiocephaly because the can only turn their head to one side. Torticollis is usually due to birth trauma. Twins and multiples often get it because of a crowded uterine environmentsh
