Eight Illnesses Doctors May Overlook in Babies
We consider our pediatricians to be experts when it comes to caring for our wee ones. We don't hesitate to call them in the middle of the night when our babies have unexplained fevers or aren't acting like themselves. Because children under the age of two cannot always communicate what is bothering them, the doctors can only treat the symptoms we can describe, often overlooking some serious, but treatable illnesses. Children's Health recently identified the most common medical conditions missed by pediatricians, and we have delved into them here.

Actually, there's an error in the slideshow. Torticollis has not become more prevalent due to the 'back to sleep' campaign, plagiocephaly (flat head) has become more common. Children with torticollis often end up with plagiocephaly because the can only turn their head to one side. Torticollis is usually due to birth trauma. Twins and multiples often get it because of a crowded uterine environmentsh
1Celiac disease is missed a lot. 1 in 133 people have this disease and most do not know it. In children some signs are poor growth, diarrhea and a huge distended belly.
Proper diagnosis and switching to the gluten free diet can really help them feel so much better and get their growth back on track. Unfortunately since doctors don't get any $$$ from drug companies for this, diagnosis is often missed and the kids (and parents) suffer.
I was not diagnosed until I turned 35. Life would have been MUCH better if doctors did their jobs and tried to find out what is wrong with us instead of prescribing useless medications.
