How Is the Economic Situation Affecting Your Spending Habits?

The current economic roller coaster has many of us taking a second look at our account balances on a daily basis and thinking more carefully about the prices of the things we purchase. A recent trip to the grocery store made me realize that I often "splurge" on items that I don't necessarily need. With Halloween and the holidays right around the corner is the state of the economy affecting how you spend on your family?

my parents used to always tell us there would be fewer Xmas presents each year than the last and it always made us really sad. i wouldn't do that to my kids. i would scrimp somewhere else, but not on presents.

We are pretty much scrimping on everything.. Both my husband and I had brand new cars when we met, then had a baby, and my husband is currently in school that he has to commute to, so, we have alot of bills with 2 cars, lodging, food, tuitiion, and gas.

we try to be frugal on a regular basis.... so the things that we DO splurge on... (like the 1st birthday party we're planning) dont hurt so much. we'll cut back on things for me... or us... and spend on the baby... BUT we would have done that regardless of the economy i think.

I chose other because we haven't yet made any drastic lifestyle changes. We are generally pretty pragmatic with our purchases to begin with and we are lucky that my husband has a good, stable job. So day to day, we are still ok. Plus, we are doing better right now than my parents, so we are still planning to travel to them for the holidays.

We're already pretty frugal to begin with. I did pare down our Christmas list this year, we still do a lot of homemade/handmade gifting, but trimming the list helped. Using a clothesline helps, if your husband allows it in the back yard ;-)

We haven't really cut back on anything recently since we have been counting pennies for awhile now. We've been blessed in the fact that we haven't been hit too hard with rising prices. We've sold so much of our stuff on Ebay to help cover some unexpected costs so we wouldn't have to dip into our savings.

I'd probably say Christmas. But it's more my lay-off that's causing that, if that hadn't have happened we'd still be in fine shape. And we're not even really hurting with that yet either, so I don't want to cut back too much on Christmas.
