Many a youngster starts their diet of solid foods off with Cheerios and then graduates to bits of bananas, pinches of meat and strands of pasta. The small pieces are a great way to introduce them to the world of real food and to enhance their motor skills, but these foods will give baby a firm grasp on dinner while helping them work through their incoming teeth.

Completely agreed, Anonymous. Children under 1 should not be eating products with milk or eggs, as allergies are very likely (as seen in my little one who is allergic to both) and even without the presence of allergies their bodies just cannot digest these ingredients properly. The suggestion to feed a baby french toast is irresponsible since it contains eggs. And, fishsticks should absolutely be avoided. Children under two should not be eating fish or shellfish. Again, the potential for allergies is too dangerous at any age before. And, fried tater tots? And hard apples in a chip form? And snow peas in their pods? These just aren't appropriate foods for older infants and as a mother, this slideshow upsets me. There are people who will heed the advice in this slideshow and it could prove to be extremely dangerous for their children. This should be removed.

Many of these foods pose an extreme choking hazard, including apples, bell peppers, sausages and uncooked carrots. I wouldn't give these foods to a 2 yr old (without cutting them into very small pieces) much less my 8 month old. This article seems hastily thrown together and even irresponsible.
