A friend recently told me about the ultimate mom multitask — pumping while driving! She was in a bind after a doctor's appointment ran late so she had to hop in her car and hook up. Using a travel pump and bottle attachments, she headed home while making dinner for her son. Have you expressed milk in transit?

This is very dangerous. I am an ER nurse and over the past few years. I have seen several mothers come in from wrecks associated with pumping while driving. One has even died. The numbers are disturbingly increasing. All of this is just to save time or keep a shirt from getting ruined. Moms your baby wants you alive with a wet shirt not in the morgue. If you think a hands free one is safe think again, the lady that was killed was using one. Use common sense your child and family will thank you. Milk replaceable, you aren't.

I do the hands free all the time. Otherwise I would never keep up with the massive amount of food my kid eats. When in the car, I sit in the back seat and lean over the seat to feed her. She will calm down fast and go to sleep. Also helps me keep up.

If you're using a hands-free pump, what's dangerous about it? Your hands are still on the wheel and your attention's probably more on the road than when your kids are in the car on a normal day. I've hooked up, then driven for awhile, then pulled over to undo everything and get situated again. Easier and far less distracting than trying to rush home before I got that monster let down and leaked milk all over my clothes, and then missing the opportunity to capture all that milk.

I never drove while hooked up to the pump, but I did pump while my husband drove during a Thanksgiving road trip. Getting hooked up to the pump without flashing all of the truck drivers on the interstate was quite an interesting experience!

I haven't since my son was bottle fed. However when my daughter comes in December I may have to at some point because many members of my family live a couple hours away, and I usually go visit them on days when my hubby is at work. The pump I bought is hands free, and you can easily pull over to attach, drive while you pump, and pull over to detach.

bellafranki, there are lots of hands free pumps on the market and different attachments to make pumps hands free, so as long as that's the way you're pumping, it wouldn't be any worse than someone changing a cd or drinking a coffee.
