Who Drives the Sitter Home?

Every time my husband and I go out, we argue about who will drive the sitter home.

Being a woman, I feel vulnerable driving around late at night on my lonesome.

My hubby argues that it's an uncomfortable ride — older man and younger woman with not much to talk about so we usually take turns.

I am a babysitter and I generally babysit within walking distance (2-4 houses down) but I used to babysit until about midnight or after and nobody wanted me to walk home by myself (except for myself) so normally that mom walked me home. After about a year or two the dad began to walk me home, but by that point I was fairly comfortable with the family, but for other families who I don't know as well its always more akward for the sitter to have the dad drive home. So if you want to keep a good sitter, try to have the mom do it, it really does make it more comforable.

Riding with the dad is just AWKWARDDDDD I'd say having someone old enough to drive themselves sounds like the best idea

I do not even want my husband in the house alone with the babysitter. Not because I do not trust him, but rather, I do not want him or the babysitter to be uncomfortable. As such, I would never have my husband drive a babysitter home. Uncomfortable for both. I would never want to put my husband in a position where he could be falsely accused of something.

As a former babysitter... if you're the mother, drive her home. It's awful having to ride with the dad. Bad situation.

My dad actually had a scary experience with this. He drove our babysitter home at night when we were little and a couple hours later, her parents called and asked where she was. My dad said that he dropped her off hours ago. Her parents accused him of a number of different and horrible things and it was a scary situation for all. Turns out the girl pretended to go in the house through a side door my dad couldn't see, and as soon as my dad pulled away, she hopped into her boyfriend's car and didn't come home until 2am. (Obviously pre-cellphone days!) The parents called to say sorry but we never had that babysitter again. I feel like if my mom would have driven her home, the situation still would have been scary, but I feel that they wouldn't have been so quick to accuse her with improper behavior. I totally would rather have my hubby drive my kiddos home, but I also wouldn't want anything like what happened to my dad happen to him. We'll see when we get to that point.

I did A LOT of babysitting when I was in high school. The worst was when the father drove you home. Please do not have your hubby drive the sitter home. I HATED it! I had a friend who was driven home by a father and he talked about sex and inappropriate things. I have heard of fathers making moves on girls. I know I know you hubby would never do that BUT the sitter doesn’t know that. It was unsettling for me.

Hmm... I probably watch too many Lifetime movies, but the husband driving the hot young babysitter home never seems to work out well for the wife... I agree with j2e1n9's reasoning. In the case of an emergency, it'd be good if the babysitter could drive. Also, if they're driving age, they should be more mature and more responsible with your child. But I guess I'll see how I feel when I actually have kids!

I am the babysitter... and I drive myself. But when I have kids I am not so sure I will have one that isn't old enough to drive.

Our babysitter is my mom so we don't have to worry about that.

We only have a babysitter for maybe an hour at a time and she can walk to our house. Hubby drives her home because it's usually after dark and I don't want her walking home in the dark.

I agree. Get one old enough who can drive just in case an emergency happens and she needs to drive the baby to you, or to the emergency room or something like that. I could see the point your husband is making. Its hard to talk to kids these days for women let a lone men! Hello, nothing in common! "so...did you see American Idol last night?" LOL! :D

Our babysitters normally can drive themselves. So they drive themselves home. It is wonderful.
