Bubbly For the Pregnant Bride?

Should a bride sip from a champagne flute if she's with child? Lots of women believe moderation is key when it comes to a baby-to-be, but others steer clear of alcoholic foods while expecting. A girl's wedding day is a memorable one often filled with sentimental speeches and well wishes. Is it appropriate for a pregnant bride to raise her glass and toast her union with a bit of bubbly?

Come on don't play with that !! Bad idea ! One drink and then, you wanna take another, and you can't and you die not to be allowed or you drink a little, and a little.... and a little too much ! Come on ! Your taking risks ! Cote d'azur i'm totally okay with you - for i'm french too ^^

It's funny you say that, Mme Hart, because I live in France too and was going to say exactly the opposite - at least among everyone I know, a pregnant woman could NEVER have a drink of alcohol! Not even a sip. A pregnant friend of mine even refused to eat coq au vin for fear that the wine in the dish would hurt her baby. The way it has been explained to me, there are critical moments in the development of the fetus where even a drop of alcohol could have catastrophic effects on the baby, but until this point no one has been able to identify when, exactly, this happens. So yes, it's very possible that you can have a sip of champagne at your wedding with no negative effects, but do you really want to take that chance with the health of your baby?

there's nothing wrong with it as long as the bride isn't severely morning sick like my mother was when she married my father now nearly 26 years ago as she was nearly 3 months pregnant with me then and she had M/S the entire time even being hospitalized on a couple of occassions but of course it's different than it was in the old days when they didn't known drinking/smoking were dangerous for a pregnant woman

1 small drink is fine, it's a special occasion and won't hurt the child.

Here in France, this question wouldn't even be asked. Women are okay to have a glass or wine/champagne now and then in a pregnancy and doctors are fine with it!

I voted no. Sure it's probably not a big deal but if you know you're pregnant and know the possible risks why do it.

I honestly don't care if people are whispering about me. I guess I've just livened up their boring life by giving them something to talk about! I had a glass at my wedding. And I don't know if anyone was whispering or judging me because I was focused on my hubby. I haven't had any wine so far with this one, but I probably will at special occasions this summer.

That's a good point, psterling. It would be awful to have people whispering about you at your own wedding, even if the bride's doctor said a couple sips would be okay. My doctor said that a small glass of wine every so often will not harm the baby. I haven't had one yet but I may soon !

I wouldn't hold it against a bride but I probably wouldn't do it myself because people will always judge you.

I think drinking (in small amounts) in certainly a personal decision while pregnant. My OB has said that wine in small doses is just fine.
