Don't Water Down Formula, Opt For Store Brand Instead

In these tough economic times, mamas looking to tighten their budget should consider purchasing store brand formula rather than the pricey labels. Pediatric nutrition expert Dr. Barbara Levine explains that all infant formulas are created equal in terms of nutritional benefits and that shelling out extra for the national brands just covers the costs of their advertising and other expenses. She also advises parents against watering baby bottles down to stretch the formula.

I've used Wal Mart's Parents Choice for a while now and no complaints at all. I'm trying to convince my husband that we should buy something with the $700 we're saving. No luck so far on that :) Darn recession.. Just heard that CVS is going to start selling their own store brand...same nutritional value as the others. They have to because of FDA regulation. I'll take the advice of Dr. Levine and many other medical resources (including my own pediatrician on this one). Believe, me, I would NEVER put my child in danger if I thought there was ANY difference. But if I have a chance to save 50% AND take care of my baby...I'm there! Anyway, so happy I can now do this shopping at CVS. So much more convenient to where we live and where I work. Sure that will be true for a lot of other families too. Woo hoo!

I just tried it and discovered I can save $661.90 by using Parent's Choice store brand formula instead of Nestle Goodstart Supreme formula. What a godsend in this economy - this video is right people should opt for a store brand formula.

Oh and ask your pediatrician for samples. My son had to be on Nutramigen due to allergies and there are unfortunately no store brand substitutes. I always asked my doc if they had samples every time I was there. He was always happy to give them when they had them since they know how expensive formula can be.

My husband and I started buying the store brand after we saw that it was $13 (presidents choice) for alot more than the amount of formula in a can than Enfamil that cost us $29 a week.
