Does Your Child Have a College Fund?

Your child may be just learning to eat solids, but before you know it she'll be heading off to college. Have you already started stashing cash to pay for her educational expenses?

No, I have not started a college fund for Taylor yet. I really want to start looking into the best way to get one started. Taylor is not even here yet! But I truly want to plan for her future. I am due March 2,.... so if anyone can help with any pointers.... it will greatly help!

I just started a 529 plan for my son. I can't even imagine how much college will cost when son turns 18 in eight years.

We set up a 529 plan when my son was born. When I was in college, my tuition was $26K a year. I can't even imagine how much it is going to cost by the time my son goes!

We were lucky when my husband sold some of his father's land, he put all but $3,000 of it away for our daughter who wasn't even born yet. The only thing is we're not going to tell her about it we want her to work for it, we'll pay off any loans and give her a decent amount of money for books and stuff. But you work harder for something when you have to pay for it.

My fiance and his ex-girlfriend both have college accounts for their daughter. When we get married in December, I will start contributing as well (and I'm glad to do it; she's my only child!). My fiance insisted that I wait until we were married to start adding to it, though.

My parents didn't have one for me (or my siblings) I am lucky enough to get enough scholarships that cover school and have just a small loan for living expenses.Sometimes I feel like we should start our kids' college funds right now! And we aren't even planning on kids for another 4 years lol.

My mom was saving for both me and my sister through UPromise, but now that money's been consolidated and it's just going to my sister... My dad doesn't have anything for me because my brother is seven years older and needed every penny for his prestigious engineering education. Scholarships and loans, scholarships and loans...

We started contributing monthly to a 529 plan when my son was born in January. Of course it's taken a bit of hit with the stock market issues, but at least we have time to recoup the losses.
