Do Your Kids Keep to a Routine?

To schedule or not to schedule, that's the question. While some moms and pops believe in keeping their children on a daily track, other folks like to leave room for flexibility.

Routine yes, as in the same things happen almost everyday and especially before bed. But schedule not exactly. We'd love it, but to be that structured with our 5mo old would be impossible. As much as we'd want him to be in bed and asleep by 8 it just doesn't always work that way. He fights it quite a but lately. We have the same routine with him every night before bed, but sometimes it takes us up to an hour to get him to go to sleep for the night. So yeah we have to be a bit flexible.

We like to keep a routine...such as, during the week we all wake up at the same time, take turns in the bathroom, eat breakfast, etc. And we have a certain time that we need to be out of the door by. Bedtime is at 8pm (still a little late for him...he's 5) so all baths, cleaning, dinner and wrestling must be done by then. :) On the weekends however...yeah, we fall apart on that one.

There is always room for surprises but for the most part I try and keep my daughter on a schedule, she seems to do better that way and it avoids many meltdowns so its great for me.

Our fella has a set schedule, and he sticks to it really well. We do stray from it every now and then, but not often at all. It definitely works really well for us, and it seems to keep him much happier. :)

We stick to a schedule - otherwise she has mental breakdowns! And no one wants a mental breakdown in the middle of the mall or a restaurant! We can slightly alter it if necessary, but because we work fulltime out of teh house - everyone (especially our sitters) are happy when we have a well rested and fullbellied child!

Three cheers for structure. We keep to the same routine, but are more flexible Friday and Saturdays.

Certain things we keep on routine- like bedtime and nap time, but it's not so strict that we can't do anything else during the day. Structure is nice, but so it having the flexibility to do what you need to throughout the day.

very scheduled. started that way because our oldest daughter had autism and there was no other choice for our sanity. now the girls are in school all day and then have after school activities so still very scheduled. works well for us to get everything done. but on christmas break, easter break, etc. we go somewhere and have no plans. just relax and totally unwind.

Routine has been KEY for our little one. Since we started really keeping to it (about a month and a half now), she sleeps through the night, and she was NO WHERE NEAR sleeping through the night before. I'm a total advocate. She has dinner, bath, nurse, book, and in bed at 7 or 7:30. It works like a champ.Buuuuut, I do want to add that we are not so rigorous with our schedule that we can't mix it up once in a while. I know some people that do not delineate whatsoever (more power to them, but we can't live that way). It's nice to be able to stay out later than 7 once in a while, especially with it be lighter later and nicer out.
