I'm lucky enough to live in the same city as my parents and in-laws, but some of the moms at Sugar HQ live thousands of miles away from their tots' grandparents. To break the distance barrier, they use the web cams in their computers to iChat with their parents on a regular basis. They say the online video conversations allow their children to keep up their relationships with their grandparents and satisfy the grandparents' desires to see their loved ones on a more frequent than possible basis.
According to an article in The New York Times, there has been a 20 percent growth in video calling over the last year and that number is only expected to grow as more computers contain built-in web cams.
Do you keep in touch with family members via a web cam?

Gorgeous
No, we don't have a webcam. The only people we'd use it for are my parents, though.
1Yes, Yes, Yes! We iChat with my parents once a week and my brother and sister-in-law as well. It has really helped my son feel connected to them, even though they aren't nearby!
2I don't like my distant relatives.
the answer would be no for me.
3no not yet...my mom called me about 2 wks ago and told me to buy one..then she told my sister to go buy her one. she wants to be able to talk to the grandkids. so now i have to go get a webcam...
with us in OR and her in IN...she wants to actually see the kids.
4when i first moved out of state for college my parents would set up the webcam all the time and we would talk on our cell phones but see ourselves on yahoo messenger. Also, my dad would leave it on for me so I can see my little fur babies running past the screen and I could see their reactions when they hear my voice on speakerphone!!
5My husband's family lives in Sweden. we use it for the grandparents to see and 'talk' with the baby.
6We also use it when daddy is away on business. It's great for him to see the little guy and the little guy likes to hear daddy even if he's not sure where daddy is
(8 month old)
all the time. my son who is 3 even starts it when he wants to chat with his Grammy!
7We use the webcam everyday! My husband's 6 year old son lives in France, so we do a webcam everyday after he gets home from school to talk and play uno or something.
8We dont use a webcame, but i have a very detailed website. I keep a blog website with pictures, videos, and most of our doings and her developments (shes 11 months)so that seems to satisfy my inlaws who live states away.
9We live in Buffalo, NY. My mother lives in Las Vegas, NV and my father lives in Columbus, OH. It helps them see her on a more regular basis, and all the milestones she is reaching in her first 6 months here. I love it!
10I've started using webcams for the first time, since my husband is in Iraq. It works out perfectly to actually see each other. Plus it's free! Can't beat that....phone cards are expensive!
11I love it. It keeps our family so connected and the little ones have relationships with far-away relatives that would have never been accomplished otherwise.
