Do you use your children as an excuse? There is one perk of being a parent that many moms and dads use to their advantage — the ability to get out of doing things by attributing the reason to their child. Whether it's a playdate, a weekend away or a dinner party the mama or papa doesn't want to attend, when someone uses the kiddie card, it's rarely argued.

I dont have kids yet, but i work with women who use thier children.
example: One woman who is always leaving early because her kid is "sick", I went to the movies after work, saw the ladies daughter, asked her how she was feeling, and she had no idea what i was talking about....her mom? getting her hair done.
1I do it but most of time it's the truth. I really try not to use him to get out of things but sometimes it just happens. Taking care of my son is my priority.
2Everyone I know uses the kid card. I can't say I blame them. It's usually much better than telling the truth and causing drama.
3Not unless it's valid. But it's usually the reason we're not able to attend something, need to leave early, etc. It's not a cop-out, it's the actual reason.
And with things like work, we do our best to take turns so one of us isn't "always leaving early" for things like dr's appointments, illness, etc.
4Yes, but only when its the truth!
5been there, done that, will continue to do so.

7I have and will continue to. There's only been one time when it wasn't the whole truth. We were invited to dinner with friends but the restaurant was far and way more than we could afford, so instead of saying that we just said it's because we wanted to keep our son on the same feeding/bedtime schedule and didn't want to disrupt his routine. So that's actually true, we just left out the fact that we couldn't afford the restaurant and the gas to get out to it.
