Do You Outfit Your Kids to Keep Track of Them?

Last night on Jon & Kate Plus 8, Jon and Kate explained that they outfit their twins and sextuplets in bright colors when going on outings to help keep track of them. I met a woman at the playground who told me she dresses in the same colors as her children so she can remember what they are wearing. Do you use a similar tactic to keep track of your tots?

Great idea, Greggie. I would dress them in bright colors, because as lickety split said, it's much more visible in a crowd.

My stepdaughter (9) insists on matching my daughter (2). I only indulge her because she'll probably have a big change of heart when she becomes a teenager. And I'm already sewing them each a dress, so it is just as fast to sew two. As far as dressing them to stand out, I don't. They're still at the hand-holding/strapped in the stroller stage though, so when they get older maybe I'll change my mind!

I don't do that with my kids but if I had as many kids as the Gosselins to keep track of I definitely would! It's not that hard with only two kids.

My kids like to dress alike sometimes. I wouldn't push on them, but I don't turn away the opportunity. I don't think I'm "doing" anything "to them."

Uh, I would love to see the looks on my kids faces when i dress them all the same......I'm never gonna do that 2 my kids.....lol...

i have done this with my daughter that has autism (neon orange or green) which i learned from a friend who lost track of her toddler son at a concert in the park. she saw him across the way only because he was wearing a neon orange top. if we go somewhere like disneyland i use a sharpie to write our cell numbers on my girls backs and they have been told to go to the uniformed female employees if they get separated.

I should add that my girls like to match. My 4 year old loves for them to wear matching pajamas.

I do match them for airplane trips or 6 flags or the zoo--busy places like that. Especially if my husband is taking them without me. They may match exactly (my MIL buys them matching outfits for every holiday/birthday) or it may just be that they are both in red dresses, for example. If figure if a child gets lost I can say--"dressed just like this only bigger/smaller!" I think I will start using Greggie's suggestion, as well. For a trip to the playground or similar I don't employ and extraordinary measures.

i'm lucky if i match when we go somewhere..but i do pay attention to what i did put the kids in so if needed i can tell someone.

I'll dress them matching if they both want it, but not otherwise. Instead if we're going somewhere like Disneyland, I take a picture of them before we enter so that if something were to happen, I could give that picture to the authorities as an exact description of what they were wearing.
