The Holiday Hassle: Are You Into It or Over It?

A mom knows the holidays are near when she starts to see long lines, carolers, wish lists, and rolls upon rolls of wrapping paper. Combine that with big meals to plan, lots of baking, school productions, and playing Santa, and the cold months can fill up a woman's calendar pretty quick! Most parents plan their holidays around their kids in an attempt to create lasting memories, but we're curious if you actually enjoy it?

Yes, I could do without the stress for sure! I love that my husband is home for a few days to help out with the kids, but I'm honestly looking forward to Christmas more when my kids are a bit older than now (they're nearly 8, nearly 5 and just turned 2)and can actually appreciate the work that I do every year. They don't truly appreciate what they're given yet, and we don't spend it with extended family as our 2 families live too close together so we are pulled in several different directions if we do try to visit with anyone, especially since my FIL's birthday is Christmas eve and it's insisted that that be just his birthday and have nothing to do with Christmas! Then both sides of the family want us for Christmas morning, and last I checked, that's just not possible. My husband works a very physical job that is often exhausting right before Christmas, so we enjoy the quieter things like community caroling on Christmas eve, a relaxed morning of slowly working through gifts at the kids pace as they get tired and want to snack and play as they open, and then have a nice turkey mid afternoon and then veg infront of the tv for a good Christmas movie before bed.

I love it even more as an adult with children experiencing it. My daughter just turned 3, and is into Santa this year. It's so much fun! The other night, while we were putting the little one into his stroller for a quick trip to the store, an older gentleman with a full beard passed us. Of course, she lit up like a star and said, "LOOK! IT'S SANTA!!" ... haha.
