Do You Like Family Name Themes?

Families like the Kardashians and the Duggars pick a letter and stick with it. But other parents choose a theme to guide them in naming their kids. In the famously talented Phoenix clan, each child was given a nature-inspired name — River, Rain, Joaquin, Liberty, and Summer. Chef Jamie Oliver recently joked that his wife, Jools, has floral aspirations since she's named their three daughters Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, and Petal Blossom Rainbow. The couple are planning to welcome a fourth addition in September, and the excited pop speculated that the babe might be called Rhododendron.

It needn't be a "theme" per se but it is nice if the children's names sound like the kids are from the same family. I knew a sibling set who were named Dexter, Farley, and Keith. Guess who felt a bit "odd man out"? By the way, Dexter and Farley were twin girls.

I think names that start with the same letters are stupid. I don't mind the theme though, as long as it's not too obvious. (like the Phoenix family). I would want to make sure my kids' names aren't completely different, they should be in the same language for example, and I wouldn't mix biblical and non-biblical names, or really old and really modern ones.

I'd rather have an unusual name than be one of six other Jennifers/Jessicas/Megan/typical names here in my class.

Petal Blossom Rainbow? That sounds like the kind of name a 6-year-old would give her Barbie. I just can't see that going over well later in life. I love the name Poppy though. That's adorable.

Not usually.....but, we named our first daughter Jenna, and the second Kelly. So with J, K , the natural next letter was L and so we went with it. Would have gone with M had here been a 4th daughter. HATE the all frist letter is the same theme. Some or the Duggar kids have HORRIBLE names. Although I must say they seem like lovely children.

The full names are pretty eccentric, but i seroiusly doubt they call them by that constantly. Poppy, Petal and Daisy are cute names, nothing wrong with them and quite popular where hes from.

Oh my, why do people feel the need to torture their kids? I think it's okay to do the letter theme. I know a family who all start with a 'C'. But I wouldn't intentionally. Just not my style. How do celebrities actually come up with this crap? (Although I think, Poppy, Daisy and Petal are kinda cute if they just go by the first name). Apple? Blanket? That's cruel! What happended to Mary?

We didn't intentionally pick a "theme" for our kids names, it just happened to be that the girl and boy names we liked were both H names. When we had our first, he got the boy name and when we had our 2nd we'd picked a different name for a boy (obviously) but the girl name we'd had was still our favourite and that's what we had so we ended up with 2 H names in a row. When we had our 3rd, it happened that the names I loved we're H names again, but the one we settled on was an A because that's what we both agreed to. It had nothing to do with the letter, just the names we happened to love. The only reason my husband veto'd the H name I loved was because he though it was too old for our 2nd daughter.

i love some sort of theme.. my name starts with a Q and my hubbies starts with an S so i would like to name my child something that starts with an R.. then P or T, etc. but omg i didnt know those were the names of jamie olivers daughters! they are so adorable, but i really feel bad for them to get names THAT out there and uique, like emilielove said.

Petal Blossom Rainbow? Oy. I think that giving kids super-out-there names like this can come off as being a bit narcissistic. You're so excited for YOUR kid to be so UNIQUE that you forget how they might feel about growing up and having to introduce themselves as "Rhododendron" in a board room. If you have a theme, fine...just make sure that you're giving the kids names that'll wear okay with time. And wasn't Joaquin Phoenix actually born Leaf Phoenix or something?

If I were to have more than one child, my naming theme would be "Names." Real names. Words that are recognized on sight as names, like John and Andrew and Elizabeth (my daughter) and Sarah.
