Do You Follow All of Your Doctor's Orders?

The process of choosing your lil one's pediatrician is not easy. You ask around, do the research and interview until you find one that you trust with your newborn's life. You choose her because you trust her and feel comfortable with her philosophies. But there often comes a time where you question your doctor's orders or directed course of action. So we want to know, do you always listen to your doctor?

I always try to follow my doctor's orders, but my mother disagrees with them just so that she can feel in control of my medical situations. She's an RN in an emergency room and won't take me to the doctor for anything except shots and school-mandated checkups. Seeing so much carnage day in and day out can really jade you, and it makes me uncomfortable if I feel like something's really wrong. But, her wariness this summer saved me from some crazy reactions to a nausea medication that they never told me the side effects for.

I gave up on traditional doctors a while ago. Alternative docs are, in my opinion, so much better. If my child breaks an arm, or gets into a crash, by all means take us to the nearest doctor and do whatever is necessary to save his/her life! There's nothing a doctor could tell me in 10 minutes of watching my child in some exam room that I couldn't figure out myself. (Speaking in terms of a "well visit")

Not 100%, no. For instance, he really wants the baby to get a flu shot. I don't, so she's not getting one. I rely on him for advice, input, etc. But he's not God, and is not right 100% of the time. My main concern is that he's open to discussing things and respects my decisions should I disagree. Also, that he leaves parenting decisions to me. For instance, he shouldn't insist I breastfeed or not breastfeed, that I don't cosleep, etc. And I'm perfectly comfortable directly addressing if I disagree with his course of action so we can work it out and come to an agreement.

not all the time refusing to follow the neurologist orders saved my sons life, or what could have been a life of a vegetable and i have no regrets, after that i changed all of my sons doctors and specialists, his new neurologist says that he should have never been on the medications i cut him off of, they were two seizure medications that were the dosage for a grown man, to top it off my son was not even having seizures, he only had a few when he was two months, so i strongly urge people that if you are not comfortable or think something is wrong get a second opinion mine saved my sons life, they were pissed but my son was and is more important and my priority.
