Do You Consider Yourself an Overprotective Parent?

I consider myself a pretty laid back mom when it comes to raising my kids, but when safety is of concern I become a different person. Maybe it's from watching too many movies or newscasts, but I have a paralyzing fear that something could happen to my children if I chance leaving them with a stranger. Did or do you have this fear?

well I have a 23 year old son and a 19 year old son, and although they are big boys I still worry about them, if they go out with friends or girlfriends i can not go to sleep till they are home, i sometimes call them to tell them its late and to come home. I also have a 12 year old daughter, and yes I really worry about her, she has not slept over anyones house not even relatives, I do not trust anyone with her but me and her brothers and father, now I also have a Grandson, he lives with his mommy but i too worry about him! I find myself telling his mommy not to trust anyone with him, if i can babysit him I will. We worry about our kids from the day we bring them home from the hospital and they grow up, and you think the older they are the easier it gets, well nope it does not I think you worry more when they are older cause you are not there with them when they go out with friends to protect them, so ya I guess i am over-protective but I love my kids!

So far I am very overprotective, even with leaving my son with family (who don't live nearby, but even when they do visit, I'm hesitant). Like you, I am more laid back when I'm with him, but I just don't trust that other people will be as vigilant as I am, especially now that he is becoming mobile.

I am pretty over protective about leaving my son with someone other than family. None of my friends seem to understand why. My husband and I don't get too many nights out alone, but I would rather have my kid safe.

I'm a little over protective but it always depends on the situation. I would never leave my daughter with a stranger. The only people shes left with is close family. I couldn't bare leaving her with anyone else.

No. I educate myself and the kids on dangers, but I rarely sit and worry about what might happen. I wouldn't go leaving them with random strangers, though.

A lot of my family members are fine with leaving their children with friends or boyfriends, but those are usually the people who don't treat the kids right and they just kinda let it go. I wouldn't let just anyone watch my kid and if I did I would have cameras and call quite a bit. Too many children die here in NY from babysitters to fathers to mothers shaking the baby or beating them. I would only trust my family because they have never let anyone down.
