Do You Care When People Pat Your Bump?

The pregnant belly is a magnet for unsolicited pats, rubs, and even kisses. When I was pregnant, I wasn't a big fan of people treating my bump like it was a genie in a bottle. Does it rub you the wrong way, too?

boundaries, people need to ask before they touch, the mom needs to be able to say no.. i would imagine you feel so big, and uncomfortable you don't want people just coming up and patting you and getting in your space. only friends and family IMO.

It never bothered me having people touch my bump but it also didn't happen all that often. When strangers touched it it was usually a very old ladies, a grandmotherly type and I just figured what was the harm, kwim?

Its weird. I haven't had too many people come up and touch it--thank goodness. I let people see it when it moves, but usually it's so fast! Its like any other part of you, ya know, your arm, leg, whatever...and people don't come up and touch them, hello! personal space!

I don't recall having any strangers touching me. I did have friends and family touch my belly and it didn't bother me. I felt like they were just telling the baby "Hi". Besides, someone touching the belly is a lot less intrusive than all of the "touching" you will get once you are in the hospital(or even the OB visits...for that matter).

The only person who ever really touched my belly was my husband. Sometimes when the baby was kicking I would let other people touch it, but usually I would initiate it by telling them he was kicking. It's kind of exciting sharing that part of it with people.

Strangers touching my belly is totally unnerving to me!! Why would someone think it ok to touch my belly??? I've decided that if that happens again w/ this pregnancy, I'm going to grab their tush in return.... hey, it's just about as normal a thing to do!! However, my family and close friends are all really respectful about asking if they can touch and I don't have a problem w/ that... it's sweet. And as long as someone asks, you always have the right to say "not right now"

It never bothered me. I always thought it was very sweet that people are so enamored of pregnancy, babies and mommies. :)

I don't plan on letting anyone but close family/friends touch my belly bump.

If you don't enjoy your belly being patted by strangers, I don't recommend going into a casino. You get bombarded at every turn!

I haven't had children yet... but it baffles me that people, especially strangers, would touch a woman's belly without permission. I would never ever ever assume that it was ok and have only touched the bellies of very close friends after they have indicated it was ok to do so!!

I must radiate a "stay away" crazy vibe or something, but not one person (aside from my husband), let alone a stranger, has tried to touch my belly (and I definitely look pregnant). I can't decide if I should be offended or not. Heh.

I always wanted peole to ASK FIRST!! And I always ask first although I never want to pat the bump of a random stranger

I've let people that were close to me(my family and friends) touch my belly when the baby was moving,but when it came to strangers, it wasn't happening......

I'm a private person and having a near stranger touch my tummy is creepy! One co-worker asked to touch, and I said ok, but I was uncomfortable doing so.

It takes some getting used to, but its hard to get people to keep their hands off. As if that bump isn't connected to your body!

IF or WHEN I am prgnant I would probably only let my close friends and family touch me...I mean, it's still me and my personal space and who knows how moody I am that day...
