Do You Let Your Kids Stay Up Late on New Year's Eve?

Though some moms stick to strict schedules regardless of circumstance, others are willing to bend the rules on special occasions. I let my children stay up late on birthdays, family gatherings, and holidays. On Wednesday night, my son and daughter are welcome to ring in 2009 with us if they can keep their eyes open.

last year my then 6 year old INSISTED on staying awake until midnight. when the ball fell and we all toasted and kissed she yelled "THAT'S IT!?" and burst into tears. not sure what she thought was going to happen, maybe another christmas morning???i have always thought it would be fun to have a new years eve party for my girls and their friends, celebrating the east coast midnight (9:00 our time). but we're out of town for new year's (again) so maybe next year :)

We always try! They've never made past 10:30! My nine year old says she is going to stay up!!!

i would but my daughter is an early bird but my son will stay up, i love and the best part is being surronded by family who you love and ringing in the new year with them

My parents had rules for new years. When I was younger I didn't care at all, but one year I wanted to see the apple SO bad on TV because my parents refused to take us to Time Square, which I thought was horribly lame at the time. They said if I could stay awake, I can do whatever I want. I tried...and I couldn't. I don't think I actually stayed awake on New Years until I was 13.

My parents rules for staying up on NYE were: 001. You can stay up if you can keep awake. 002. You have to be up at 9:00AM the next morning to get ready for NY day with gramma and granpa.

I don't drink champagne or make out at midnight either, that's not what New year celebrations are about for me at all. It's about ringing in the new year, saying good buy to the old. I was allowed to stay up but didn't make it to midnight most of the time. I always made my parents promise to wake me up for the fireworks though!

I will probably let my kids stay up when they are older, or at least attempt to. My parents always let us, but my sisters crashed long before 10, lol. I was always a night owl and up until 2-3 anyway, but ive never much cared about new years

My oldest can be such a pain if he is overly tired, not just that night but the next day so NO there's no staying up until midnight for him. Well, at least not at my house. If his dad lets him stay up that's his deal (even though we are all on the same page for other things like rules, punishments and the such). If he was going to be with me this year on New Years Eve he could however stay up a bit later than normal as a special treat.

yep, sometimes they make it, sometimes they crash! they play games, watch movies, eat snacks.

My brother and sisters and I all stayed up with my parents and grandmother. It was fun. They didn't drink champagne and if they did they gave us sparkling stuff.

(a) My 4 year old doesn't know the difference; (b) my hubby and I _RARELY_ stay awake until midnight on New Years; (c) if my 4 year old doesn't get a good nights sleep, it is pure H-E-L-L the next day, so while we'll be up until 9 or 10 on the rare occassion, we definitely regret it the next day, so why push it an make all of us miserable?

Sorry, I just don't think New Years is a kids' holiday. Do kids like to drink champagne and make-out at midnight? No. so unless you just don't want the extra alone time with your husband, why let them stay up? Got to bed! lol

Yes I do but she always ends up falling asleep long before midnight.Her normal bedtime is 8:00 on school nights and 9:00 on weekends so it's very hard for her even though she tries her hardest to stay awake until that late at night.

They'll be at a party with my husband so my guess is that they'll be up after midnight. However, on nights when they don't have school the next morning, we're not big on early bedtimes anyway, especially special occassions.
