Grandmas play different roles in every child's life. One of my grandmothers is the spoiling type. Every time we walk in her front door, the house oozes of muffin batter, cookies and jars of candy. She still won't let visitors escape without eating something terribly indulgent. She may have been a ghostwriter for the grandmother's guidebook: 101 Ways to Spoil Your Grandchildren. My other grammy was the yin to her yang. All she cared about was our education and teaching us the value of a dollar. Baking and coloring took a back seat to earning straight A's and learning the stock market.
I am starting to get a sense of the types of grandma my mom and mother-in-law will be to our wee ones. What kind of grandmothers do you have?

On one side were the Italians...who fed me every time I walked into the door. Obviously something Italian. We had toys to play with, and did arts and crafts.
On the other side, the billionaires, who gave out cash, stock, bonds, etc like candy. We grandchildren (4 of us) from her 2 kids, had our own playroom, foos-ball table, trampoline, kitchen (like, a real one with snacks and stuff) our one playroom bathroom, books, pretty much everything. It was awesome, =P
All that money made me more conscious of how hard it was worked for. I am a frugal woman now! Suprisingly.
1I was spoiled with foods on both sides, although my maternal grandma was always kinda scared of my mom's reaction, for whatever reason....
2I have two awesome grandmas. Growing up, we lived next door to my dad's parents. We had our own playroom, secret gate and intercom to buzz them to ask if we could come over and play. My mom's parents lived about a mile away and when we went there we had young aunts and uncles who entertained us and my grandma was always up for any type of activity from bike riding to roller skating. Luckily, both are young enough to still be fun great- grandmas to my kids.
3Aww, all my grandparents were deceased by the time I was born.
Actually, my father's mother
was alive and I met her once but she didn't like me because I had blonde hair and blue eyes (my parents are Puerto Rican). I sat next to her and she got up from the couch. I was like 7 years
old! She then proceeded to fall down the basement stairs. I remember I didn't get up, I just changed the channel on the tv. I'm still not over her being mean to me!!! She died a couple of
years after that.
My son (due in June) will have a grandpa and grandma on my side and a nonna on my hubby's side (his father passed away).
