Did Your Husband Take Paternity Leave?

Many working husbands take paternity leave to help lessen the new and recovering mama's load when it's time to bring babe home from the hospital.

Actor and daddy-to-be, John Cho recently told USA Today what he will do when his wife, Kerri Higuchi gives birth. He said:

"I've been working for a while and I'm going to take a break and be home with the kid. I'm going on maternity leave," Cho says. "I'm so freakin' excited for this kid to come, and I'm so scared they're going to hand me a small human being to take home and I'll be responsible for the human being living."

My husband stayed home with me for the first 3 weeks, he saved up all of his vacation, that way we'd still be getting money :) he didn't want to miss any of it.. plus having a c-sec it was great having him there to tend to Jake and help me around...

After my materity leave was up, my husband shut down his business for 10 months and was a SAHD. It was awesome! Next time around (God wiling we'll have a next time) he'll do the same, and maybe even perminantly shut down his business for a couple years.

When we have kids, I'll take my maternity leave, and THEN he'll take his paternity leave (both paid). No sense in us taking it at the save time!

My husband took two weeks off when our son was first born, and then an additional 8 weeks once my 12 weeks was up to stay home and have some of his own time with the baby once I went back to work. He was paid the entire time by using his saved up vacation and sick time. It was fabulous!

4 weeks paid leave and one week of RTT unpaid but no-questions-asked holidays we get here in France. He's taking his usual 6 weeks paid leave holidays this August and beginning of Sept to stay home with James while I work :D

My husband is quite lucky. His job gives him 2 weeks of paid leave and then he can use all his paid vacation time and paid sick time on top of that. He gets 6 weeks vacation and 2 weeks sick time so if you add it all up its a little over two months he will be able to take off. Ahhh...the benefits of working at a University!

MY husband was awesome. He took 12 paid weeks and then quit after it was over to work fulltime on his own business. It's been awesome!

Paternity leave is covered under the Family Leave Act, so if he works for a company that qualifies for that, it doesn't matter if the company itself offers it or has a policy. It just isn't paid.

When we had our children paternity leave wasn't an option for my hubby, it wasn't offered at his company then (it probably is now, but he doesn't work for them anymore and we're not having any more children). He would have taken it if it was available.

With our first he was in the police academy and couldn't take any time off, luckily our son was born on a Saturday so he had two days with us. Second son, he took off 3 weeks, third son, he took off 5 weeks. It's all paid leave.

He took one week, and the company paid him for it. The company doesn't have an actual paternity-leave policy, but his manager is generous and does that for any new Dads at his branch.

My hubby will take time off. Luckily he's in grad school and they're pretty flexible with his schedule.

My husband is a pharmacy manager for Walmart, they gave him 2 weeks paid.

My husband took 2 weeks off (paid) w/ our first. With our second (just born 4/4!!) he took a couple of days off... but has been doing shorter days and taking our pre-K child to and from school each day. All and all it works really nicely

He had to leave for five months of training four days after our son was born. But, he took a couple of weeks of leave after our daughter was born. That was really nice!

Yes but not 12 weeks. Like my maternity leave, his paternity leave would be unpaid and we wouldn't be able to afford both of us being off work.He was home for a month with my first two, and two weeks with my second.

Hubby is going to take his vacation time when we are due since I will have a scheduled c section we will know the date way in advance. That way he won't lose pay, which for him...paternity leave would involve losing pay.
