Did You Worry About the State of Your Delivery Room?

A new report from the UK says mothers and babies are being put at risk by serious shortages in maternity services. Apparently women are giving birth in units where there are not enough toilets or showers and women are rushed out of the rooms so more than one woman can give birth in a bed every day. Many of my friends fretted over their delivery room experience and whether or not they should opt for more expensive, personal options. Sadly, not every family or hospital can afford to provide a near-empty delivery room or luxurious accommodations.

I had a great birth experience in a Turkish government hospital. The doctors and nurses were wonderful, it was drug free (which I wanted), I had my own room,and the food was great. I feltreaaly good about the whole experience.

Maybe I am completely oblivious but I think this really is more unique to the UK..

I did have that concern, but it was eliminated because I chose a doctor that works with a great hospital.

hehe our room was almost as big as our condo~ and the bathtub was way bigger! i wanted to stay longer than our 3 nights there

I was smart enough to leave the UK before having kids. I gave birth in The Netherlands, my birth was drug free, I had a huge private room with en-suite facilities, I was brought a meal afterwards, and I was home in my bed 4 hours later. The saying that you get what you pay for couldn't be more true when it comes to the UK's national health service.

I am a huge worry-wort, so when I do have children, I can assure you that I will be worrying about every single detail!

I lived in CT when I was pregnant and was thinking about giving birth in NYC. For some reason I wasn't too comfortable with the NYC plan so I had my son in CT. The nurses were outstanding, I had my own room with TV, water cooler and a super clean bathroom and stayed in the hospital three full days.

I didn't feel rushed at all the nurses made sure I was comfortable before they moved me to my overnight room (our new hospital has it where you deliver and stay overnight in that room).
