Did You Get the Child You Wanted?

Tinseltown's buzzing with a lot of boy love lately. Salma Hayek, mother to sweet Valentina admitted she initially wanted a son.

And Tori Spelling, who is expecting a sibling for her lil guy, Liam made comments about sugar and spice not being so nice based on her strained relationship with her own mother.

But, the newest celeb sporting a baby bump, Minnie Driver recently suggested she's thinking pink.

This is just a fascinating subject...the controversy and the intensity that some people feel over the gender of their child. After having three boys and a set of twins where they told me they would be boy/girl twins, I had a lot of emotion associated with wanting a daughter. Best of luck to all of us!

I always imagine my first child to be a boy when I think of what it will be like when I have kids. And my bf INSISTS that in all his family it's boy then girl. And it's true, his parents had him, then his sister; & he has a lot of aunts and uncles, and I think every single one, on both his mom's and his dad's side, has had a boy then a girl. But.... I know that that means NOTHING! My aunts and uncles all had different combinations & order of their kids. It's a 50/50 chance you know!Oh, and I knew of two families, one had FIVE girls, and another had FOUR boys. The dad of the girls really wanted at least one boy, but after 5 girls, gave up! And the mom of the four boys, didn't think she could handle five boys, so she made peace with it! I can't imagine! No matter what, I think I'd stop if I had three of the same sex!

Growing up my aunt wanted girls and my mother wanted boys. Today my aunt has two sons and my mother has three girls. I know my mother wouldn't wish for anything different but it goes to show that fate doesn't always care about wishes. I hope to one day have at least one of each but I will happy either way.

I'm not even pregnant yet and I am obsessed with having a boy. For some reason I picture myself with a boy as the first born (and maybe second) and a little girl later. I was a bit of a tomboy growning up and I am scared that I will have a real girlie girl and not be able to share that stuff with her.

I chose other because I originally wanted a little boy but I was still over the moon when I found out we were having a little girl. Now I can't even imagine having any other baby but her!

i don't have kids yet. but honestly i would like a girl. i guess i just want to be the kind of parent my parents were for me (i am an only child). they were empowering, encouraging, amazing parents. i want to raise a strong willed, proud woman like myself. i suppose you can teach those same skills to a boy, but to me its just not the same. i guess we'll see what happens!

I really didn't care. I thought I was going to have a boy and was surprised by a girl! but either or I didn't care. now this time around we want a boy, one of each!

I wanted a boy so badly because, as a girl myself, I know how catty and horrible a young girl can be, especially when she reaches her teens. A boy is so much easier.

My first I had a boy, I expected it was a boy anyway so I wasn't disappointed. Thought the second was another boy, thrilled to find out it was a girl. Thought this one was a boy and found out several weeks ago it's another girl. I'm pleased as this is our last and I'd rather have another girl if it's going to be my last. Also, Intelligender was wrong.

I kind of wanted to have boys, two of them. I really thought I was having a boy too. My husband and I were both really surprised she was a she :) So, we had a girl and now I want to have two girls (although, I will in no way be disappointed if the next one is a boy). I think I was terrified of having girls because I still vaguely remember those horrendous teenage years, YIKES! But then I thought more about it and both genders come with their pluses and minuses. Hey, at least when she's pre-teen/teen, I won't have to worry about finding porn in her room ;)

I also was secretly wishing for a girl with my first, then we found out it was a boy and I was happy anyway. After we met him, I realized I couldn't have asked for a little person I loved more!!! I was glad I didn't have a girl. Now we are also expecting a girl, so we will get to have one of each.

I wanted a girl, and I have two boys. With our youngest, my husband was a little disappointed - I think that he really wanted a girl this time around, too. Not that I don't adore my two boys. I had just really wanted a girl, since I knew more about raising girls.

Although I wasn't expecting it, I became pregnant with twins (apparently it runs in my family - who knew??) and I had a boy and a girl in 2005. I don't plan on having anymore kids, so we're pretty pleased with our family of four at the moment.

I had 4 miscarriages and lost a baby at 20 weeks before being blessed with my beutiful daughter. I felt so blessed to actually have a child that gender never entered my mind.

Our first was a girl and we were happy to have her, but either way we would have been happy. We will hopefully have more and I have teh same feeling for any future children.

I wanted a girl and got one. I told my husband that I would have as many kids as it took to get a girl(within reason). Luckily it happened the first time....and I still only have the one child.

kikidawn i am the same. i'm pregnant now and i feel like it is a boy, so i'm trying to get myself ready for that... but i have always wanted a girl. honestly i am more concerned about the baby being healthy, and i know i will have the child(ren) i am supposed to. i just hope that includes at least one little girl!

No kids yet... but I desperately want a girl when we have kids... if we have only boys I will love them the same... just be a little disappointed initially. .... Hope I don't sound like a horrible person :OOPS:

I really wanted a girl the first time and she was :-) But the second she just wanted a sister so bad. Hannah actually told the ultrasound tech that she "didn't ask for a baby brother" that she wanted a sister. I felt really bad about that for awhile. :-( A few years later she got her wish.
