When couples plan conception they generally prepare by tracking ovulation and take all the helpful hints they can get.
I recently stumbled on Cooking to Conceive: Fertility-Boosting Foods & Recipes to Help You Get Pregnant ($17) at the bookstore and was intrigued by the concept. It focuses on healthy dishes filled with veggies that add extra calcium, folate, and antioxidants to your diet (no champagne and oysters, but chocolate makes the cut!). It's all logical stuff, but I was impressed by the lineup. Did you change your diet when trying to get pregnant, or did you eat the same until you were eating for two?

My husband and I ate a more alkalizing diet with the intention of helping skew the chances for gender preference (just in case it would help). We ate a lot of veggies, whole grains, legumes, prior to TTC so we didn't have to alter that much from our normal diet.
We also read Judith Brown's What to Eat Before, During, and After Pregnancy to make sure we were on the right track with nutrients months before we TTC. I think this cookbook would be great accompanying reading to Judith Brown's book.
1I sadly didn't even though we were trying. I wasn't eating fast food or anything, but a lot of meat and fatty foods and not as many vegetables. After I got pregnant with my first, amusingly enough I ate 2 giant plates of veggies for breakfast and lunch every single day. I craved every single vegetable I could get my hands on, and the taste was indescribably delicious. Since becoming pregnant with her, i radically changed my diet and now we eat a very vegetable rich low meat and fats diet, much healthier.
This pregnancy I haven't been able to indulge in virtually any of my cravings because they are for AWFUL things... If I went for it, all i would eat is long john silvers fried fish and a couple steaks a day. We take vitamins and all of my nutrient levels are quite high, so it isn't a lack of, i just want to eat complete crap. After my appitite returned after morning sickness, my normal well enjoyed diet feels like torture. Eh well, it's going to be a long 9 months.
