Did Motherhood Make You a Mother of All?

My mom used to follow a lil latchkey kid home from school at a block's distance to make sure he made it there safely.

"Mom arm" aside, do you feel more responsible for all children since having your own?

Classical crossover singer and new mom, Charlotte Church recently said:

Once you become a mother, you become a mother of all children.

Do you agree?

I kind of always have been a mothering person even before my son was born. I don't meddle in other peoples business and tell them what to do, but I guess I'm very observant. I notice if a kid in a cart at the store drops their toy I'm quick to pick it up if the parent doesn't notice. Things like that.

please..i have enough trouble being a mother to my own kid, i sure am not going to try to mother others..although i have always been bossie and will tell a kid to chill if necessary...

Other - I don't feel the mother to all, but I don't qualify under "it made no difference" either. I notice kids more, and will help a child in need, but I don't go around parenting kids that aren't my own. It's not my place unless there's an immediate danger, such as described in the post above.

I don't make comments and interfere with people's parenting, but I do have a sense of being responsible for kids who are around. I was at the train station on the weekend of our last big snowstorm. We had to wait hours for the train and one father had clearly just had the kids for March Break and was sending them back to mom. They were running around and careening into people and some of the elderly people were nervous. The father was literally ignoring them, about to send them off on a ten hour train ride. I did eventually grab the one by the arm and said firmly, "You CANNOT behave like that." I wasn't rude, I wasn't mean--but he was so shocked by someone speaking to him, that he sat quietly and stunned until time to board the train. The father didn't even blink. So, I do stuff like that. But, my oldest child was in a co-operative daycare so I have a sense that everyone is responsible for the children around them.

Heck yeah, I have to hold my tongue a lot. However even before I was a mother, I was a mother hen. I always tried to take care of everyones kids. I was the town babysitter.
