Announce Pregnancy or Wait Until People Notice?

Announcing a pregnancy is a big deal, and some moms-to-be have trouble deciding when the best time is to tell their family and friends that a babe is on the way. Diablo Cody, 31, best known for winning an Oscar for writing Juno, took another approach. Today, she twittered:

"Thanks for the congrats on my fetus! No secrets here; just thought it would be fun to see how big I could get before someone noticed."

It depends on the situation if theres been a loss in between two successful pregnancies or before any then the parents to be will naturally be scared to announce anything even if it's obvious early on like if the mother to be has severe morning sickness like mine did with me but I was the first of the three the middle one ended in a miscarriage and then came my younger brother nearly 3 years later besides that it's not like it was in the 50's 60's and 70's when celebs got privacy while they were expecting either way unless they had a movie to promote as for example Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward did while she was pregnant with their eldest daughter Elinore who had been her first successful pregnancy after a devastating late term miscarriage during their honeymoon so they had a right not to announce anything though during their joint person to person interview right after Rally Round The Flag Boys was released she did let it slip that they were expecting again when she said that her academy award for the Three Faces Of Eve was her favorite Child till Nell arrived 3 1/2 months later

I marked that I waited until people noticed...but I was so sick and spent so much time in the bathroom that everyone noticed *something* was up at about 7 weeks.

I'm trying to decide about this right now. I'm only 9 weeks and I haven't gained any weight yet, but my belly is definitely pooching out. I could see a co-worker looking at it yesterday. Maybe they all just think I'm getting fat? We told our families this past weekend during a get together, and a few friends know. But we'll wait to announce it to the rest of the world after our first trimester screening in 3 weeks.

We announced it at 12wks to family & friends but my neighbors have just started noticing (didn't bother to tell the world). I'm sure she probably told her family & friends.

I thought that too, skigurl. I bet family and friends already knew. We announced the pregnancy at 8 weeks (I wish I didn't that early. My sister-in-law felt it was necessary to point out that miscarriage was not uncommon that early on...) I didn't tell anyone at college though. It took them about 6 months to figure it out!
